Owners manual oil type specification

The owners manual states 6000km or 6 months for severe driving conditions. Which I guess applies to Canada. To me, this interval seems short if you are using synthetic oil. I called hyundai canada to clarify this and they said it doesn't matter what oil type is used, the interval to be followed is per the manual. Can anyone shed some light, share their experiences.

Under warranty it would be foolish to do other than what the book says. Aside from that there are many oil thread here and varying opinions.

Everyone has different conditions so what works for me may not for you The only way to draw a real accurate conclusion is to have the oil tested.

I'm a six month max guy for the past 25 years but longer distance in better conditions. Oil is cheaper than engines.

I usually don't go more than 4 months but that's just me - Clean oil is important for GDI engines.

Oil is cheap, engines are not. Just change the oil as recommended in the owners manual( or sooner) and the engine should give you a long service life.

Problems can happen when owners try to extended the oil changes intervals for whatever reason; usually to save money.
