If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Owners that were able to install Apple Carplay with the 8" screen: do you think it's worth me choosing against the Ultimate Package?

Looking into buying a 2015-2016 CPO

I don't have any experience with Apple Carplay but I've always liked the idea of having Waze up on my car's actual screen and not having to look at my phone.

I do, however, like the perks that comes with the Ultimate Package, but I learned recently it's not able to get a software update to work with Apple Carplay.

So, do you think the features you get with Carplay are worth foregoing the perks from the Ultimate package?

I have both a 2015 5.0 (8 inch) and a 2016 3.8 Ultimate for just over a month, from personal experience so far, for my daily driver I love the Apple Car play (especially with the addition of WAZE support) and probably would miss it terribly, although very much enjoy driving the Mrs. Ultimate during the weekend.
Conclusion for what’s worth, as daily driver I would take the 8 with the CarPlay any day, for a fun long drive, the HUD is just wonderful, while controlling music using iPod/ Bluetooth via the steering controls...
should you decide to go with a 5.0, you will get EVERYTHIING, less the HUD, trunk auto close and 14 speakers system instead of 17 (unless I am listening to FLAC / uncompressed audio I can not tell the difference, which is marginal on certain audio tracks).
You will not be disappointed with either model, but I would suggest you sample both and then decide which feature(s) are more important to you.
I hope this helps...

Depends on your priorities. I never use Android Auto or Waze but others do all the time. I'd really miss the goodies that come with the Ultimate. I'd not buy a car without a HUD.

I just got a 15 yesterday and purposely DID NOT get the Ultimate package when searching for a used one b/c of how much I've gotten used to Android Auto. I can't imagine not having it and couldn't sacrifice it to get the HUD and a few other options. No regrets (but it's literally been 24 hours since I picked it up). I think if you haven't had Android/Apple before in your car you probably don't know what you are missing but once you've had it it's really hard to go back to something that feels ancient in comparison with the Ultimate navigation.

On the ultimate (without CarPlay) can you change the Spotify song on the steering wheel?

Can you elaborate on some of the features from Android Auto that make it a must-have? Just curious. I want to be talked into it or Carplay :)

On the ultimate package (without carplay) are you able to change the songs using the steering wheel buttons on Spotify, do you know?

Indeed you can, as well as Audible, Prime Music, so on and so forth, at least in the iOS world.
Sorry although I used to be an avid Android user, I can’t verify that functionality any more on that platform, ever since I switched just to avoid ‘my phone does not work / do xyz’, these days I simply say; ‘no problem dear, that is what the Apple store is for’... ;)

Here are few,
- a text comes in, you press the button and say Siri read my text.
- Speech recognition is 10 folds (if not more) better,
- you don’t have to pay for maps updates.
- you don’t have to fumble with / touch your phone to switch apps (which is illegal in many states).
I could go on, beside the hud, which I plan to use my old one so I do not miss anything from not driving the ultimate on a daily bases...but I mentioned earlier one should sample both to avoid the possibility of buyer’s regret at a later stage. Cheers...

I have an Android Auto/CarPlay Sony radio in my Cadillac and do like the features it has, however I would not have downgraded my 2015 Genesis just to have it.

My 2015 Genesis Ultimate radio plays my Amazon streaming music and audio books just fine. I can even receive text messages if I upgrade my Ultimate radio software, so I do not see the big deal about having the Android/Car play function. Free maps is good I suppose, but again not enough reason to downgrade in my opinion. I would rather have HUD and the premium Lexicon audio setup with 17 speakers(the lower audio system only gets 15 speakers) and the control knob.

To each their own I guess.

I specifically bought the standard radio to get Android Auto and Apple Car Play. I don't know how people live w/o it!!!! You get all the best of Google with a touch of a button on your steering wheel!!!

I thoroughly enjoy AA - Waze on the dash is great and all my music is on my phone.

What features make Auto/CarPlay that attractive? I use it in my other vehicle, but I only stream music and use the navigation. My text messages are forwarded with a Android Auto driving message, so I do not read text while driving.

Android Auto in my 2006 Cadillac Escalade. Cool, but not great.
I can use Android Auto app through Bluetooth in my Genesis. In the Caddy it works through a USB connector.

The Genesis steering wheel control my music selection and volume, however I have to swap apps from the phone which I have on a mount. I have my phone set to unlock in my Genesis so I just have to tap an app to select it or tap the voice button for voice commands. Not the same as the Android Auto radio in my Caddy, but it works for me to stream music and audio books.

My Genesis setup with the Android Auto phone app.

Android Auto in my 2006 Escalade. I like having Google navigation in my old SUV and other modern features like streaming music. However, in the Genesis Android Auto in really not needed in my opinion. However, I do like the album cover art that is displayed by Android Auto which is not shown in the Genesis premium system display.

I use my phone for an extended screen for my V1 (JbV1) and TMG anyway. Having Waze on the big screen is a super plus - Google assistant reads my text messages through the Genesis system and Android Auto. All my music (5000+ songs) are on my phone and pushing this through AA (without bluetooth) is awesome.

I enjoy 5.1 DVDA too much to give up the Ultimate package for Android Auto
I am with you there. Fortunately, I was happy to find out that the Tech (aka the 5.0) also supported that format just like my old R-Spec and the Mrs 3.8 ultimate (however, with this format, the 14 vs the 17 speaker system differences are most evident :().
It is such a subtle difference, but for people who care about this sort of thing, I would describe it as the highs are just a tad crispier and mids are sort of marginally wider, I would say it is about 2-5% upgrade depending on the specific track, the lows are almost the identical and any perceived differences may be attributed to FW/age of the vehicle/usage pattern etc..

I wanted my next car to have Apple Carplay. After many long hours of research, this forum and many many YouTube videos later, I decided to get the Ultimate. The additional upgrades were things I didn't want to go without. I love the HUD and will never ever get a car without one. The 17 speaker Lexicon system is awesome and music sounds amazing. I also love the fully automatic trunk which opens all the way after standing behind the car. The real woodgrain and aluminum trim look way better in my opinion. Also, when I purchased the car, the nav/software was very outdated so I decided to pony up and get the 12.5 upgrade. The native maps are awesome and the graphics were updated and they look grate. I can also now get text messages which was an added bonus. Music plays great from any app via bluetooth or through the iPod connection and I can also control it from my steering wheel. Actually, I've been using Pandora more lately since its integrated in the car. For voice recognition, Hyundai added Siri Hands Free so I can do most basic things like have Siri read my messages, send messages or call someone without having to touch my phone. If I really need WAZE, then I just pull my phone out and then put it away when i'm done.

- a text comes in, you press the button and say Siri read my text. (with Siri Hands Free I can do the same)
- Speech recognition is 10 folds (if not more) better, (the same with Siri Hands Free... It's Siri)
- you don’t have to pay for maps updates. (paid once and won't have to do it again)
- you don’t have to fumble with / touch your phone to switch apps (which is illegal in many states). When I'm driving I don't really need to worry about switching apps.

Not trying to knock Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, I love both and hope that Hyundai still gets it to the Ultimate package. But I love the Ultimate package and can live without either for now. Sorry for the long response.

Opinions differ, but I think you made a good choice. I'm sure you will enjoy it for a long time.

The 10.0 to 12.5 update also auto- attenuates sound when reversing to allow park sensors to be heard.
