  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Owners that were able to install Apple Carplay with the 8" screen: do you think it's worth me choosing against the Ultimate Package?

Thanks for the great input and I agree the Ultimate package features outweigh the lack of seamless cell phone connectivity. You have convinced me to get the 12.5 navigation update for our 2015 ultimate.

I don’t think you will be do isappointed, The Mrs ultimate came with 8.5 maps, updating to the 12.5 version, IMHO has been worth it as it does almost makes up for the lack of AA/AP,
The new 3D map doesn’t look half bad either, especially on that 9.2 crisp screen, in addition, I found having a more upto date speed limit displayed in the HUD is also a very handy feature as gentle reminder to counteract the occasional lead foot syndrome.

I couldn't imagine not having the HUD and other Ultimate features. Really thankful I held out until I found the right vehicle w/ the Ultimate package.

Indeed you can, as well as Audible, Prime Music, so on and so forth, at least in the iOS world.
Sorry although I used to be an avid Android user, I can’t verify that functionality any more on that platform, ever since I switched just to avoid ‘my phone does not work / do xyz’, these days I simply say; ‘no problem dear, that is what the Apple store is for’... ;)
I've never been able to get anything besides apple music to work while in ipod mode. Are you sure about this?

Also, if Hyundai can overcome the memory limitations of the AA/CP update then maybe everyone will be able to use Android Auto/CarPlay in the Ultimate trims.

Not sure it's a memory limitation, the Ultimate cars have ~55gb free disk space and 1gb ram.

Regardless of the reason, they are not going to invest a lot in a 4 year old model. Limited interest, no payback.

You know I only used Bluetooth in the last month or so, as I prefer to use wireless charger in her car.;)

But tonight I double checked using iPod /Media mode, tried Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart radio (which never worked right in my R-Spec), they all worked reliably in both wired and BT modes.

I am not sure about your specific configuration?

Here is what I have tested with:

- Map version 12.5 / FW update installed on a 2016 ultimate.
- iPhone XR
- Original iPhone cable.

I hope that helps.

My experience with BT has been that audio quality is noticeably inferior compared to wired connection. I started using Apple CarPlay 2 years ago, and it has been far superior to any other car UI I've seen. Actually what happens is I plug my phone in and I bypass whatever car UI comes up. Especially handy when I drove ~4 different rentals over that period - Mercedes, Subaru, Volvo, Audi.

You may be on to something. I do notice that my music sound clearer on my Android Auto radio connected through the USB connection and through my Apple IPod nano. However, my LG phone has the latest Bluetooth 4.1 or something like that which sounds pretty close so no big deal. But there is a slight difference in sound quality.

Well, you actually can do all of that with the premium head unit by using the Android Auto phone app and connecting it to the premium radio by Bluetooth. However, you will have to use a phone mounted in the car so it will not be as good as the factory Android Auto feature with more steering wheel controls and onscreen display. But you can use the "Hey Google" function hands-free on a premium system when the phone is on a mount.

Yeah, the car processes sources differently or maybe it's the phone's DAC . The same 320kbps on a USB stick played by the car sounds different when it's played on the phone through BT or wired. The phone's processing makes the BT connection sound better than the car's MP3 processing and a wired phone connection sounds better than the BT. I think it's because the car's processing tries to make it sound correct and the phone tries to make it sound "better" by boosting certain frequencies.

That said, I never use the wired connection. BT is convenient and I only use BT to listen to podcasts and Bloomberg radio through TuneIn so I don't need the best audio quality. When I listen to music, I use the USB stick with 6000 songs but if I have the songs in 5.1 DVDA format, I'll listen to that instead. The good old CD/DVD drive still sounds best.

Very odd, I tried both iPhone 7/8 and have never been able to get it working. I have a 15 ultimate so I don't think there are any tangible differences unless my firmware is borked. I'll check the FW version and maybe this is something to upgrade for...

Yet another thing my dealer said there was "no support for" unless it was part of the built in car apps. Can you post a screenshot/video of it working on Amazon music wired?

My very early production 2015 Ultimate works fine playing from any application on my iPhone both USB and bluetooth. Youtube/Spotify/Games/etc.

Playing works, just no steering/jog wheel control. It only allows apple music to be controlled, others just have audio only.

Yours is definitely odd, my radio face and steering wheel controls both work on any app that has tracks that can be changed.

Hey Suburbazine, thanks for the vid. I think I'll need a recording of both the infotaiment display changing the track. Don't think the dealer will trust just a phone screen as it could be connected to anything.
