  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
I am interested in purchasing GV70 in UK however I never saw any Genesis here on road. OK, that is probably not unexpected considering it is an unknown marque here.

But I am worried what would be resale value of my car if for some reason I want to sell it later. I tend to keep cars for longer (my current Kia is 8 years old) so another worry is what will happen to the car 5 years - and if I sell, whether I'll get any good value or Genesis may not be successful in UK and pulled out by then making my car worthless.

While interior is class leading, I find GV70's claimed fuel economy figure very poor. Such fuel economy may be acceptable in USA but with high fuel price in UK and most competitor's offering hybrid (which Genesis does not) this one also hurts me somewhat.

But I can still forget all the bad bits if I hear good ownership experience from UK.

Ive owned an Electrified G80 since July last year, actually buying the car that was on show in the Genesis showroom in Westfield.
The service I received from the Personal Assistants (Simon Towner and Chris Payne) was excellent, and the after sales service from the technical advisor (Rebecca Clulow) equally as good.
Without sounding like a member of the UK Genesis fan club, I was twenty years an owner of various Jaguar's, and seven years a Maserati Ghibli Diesel (also an excellent car), the E G80 is arguably the best car I've owned. Completely individual, often being confused with a Bentley, compared to its closest rival the Mercedes EQE, represents great value for money, and you just get the impression that the manufacturer has made a genuine effort to try and produce something special, with countless features and details. I sat in a Porsche Taycan a couple of days ago, and by comparison it felt as though there was no effort put into the cabin, and people will still buy it just because its a Porsche.
Genesis seem to genuinely be striving to make something special, compared to the complacency of the traditional premium brands.

Genesis claims they come and collect car from owner's home for servicing, repairs etc.
Where do they take the car? On a specific Genesis workshop or nearest Kia/Hyundai dealership?
As of now there is only 2 Genesis studios (= dealership?) in England and I wonder if this means taking my car hundreds of miles away?

I also see that in USA they offer 10 year powertrain warranty where as in Europe warranty is 5 years only and nothing beyond that.

Their service centre is in Corby Northamptonshire. They always insist on collecting and delivering your car on a covered transporter, and leave you with a Genesis courtesy car. From my experience they also have regional technicians who will come to you if it’s something that can be done at your location. The car does not go to a Hyundai or Kia local dealer.
One thing I would mention, as they are trying to establish themselves, I always sense they go the extra mile to keep the customer happy. Something that certainly isn’t the case with other brands!
What make of car do you currently have?

I test drove 2.5 petrol GV70.

Liked: look, interior, handling, driver's seat comfort
Disliked: rear passenger space, fuel economy

Features are very basic in Premium (base) trim. Even to get front parking sensors one needs to buy expensive innovation pack. Base trim gets only faux leather seats.

Genesis with thirsty petrol engine is good for American market where fuel is lot cheaper. But in UK they should have offered more fuel efficient engine or a hybrid. In my test drive, even after driving entirely in economy/comfort mode I only achieved 23 MPG (UK MPG is different from US MPG).

To spec the car to a level to my liking the price is coming as £50,000+ which I felt too high when the brand has no history in Europe. To spend that level of money I'd need some assurance that resale value will remain high but as this moment there is no way to verify that. So, it is a leap in the dark and for that reason I won't be proceeding with Genesis.

Still I was ready to purchase the base car at £40500. But, they don't negotiate on price at all. Had they discounted the price by just £500 it would have lowered the price of base trim helping me escape the UK luxury car tax (which kicks at £40k list price). Their argument was that they don't expect customers to buy the base trim and most people configure their cars to spend over £50k+ (they didn't disclose how many they are selling but from Society of Motor Manufacturers data I tracked Genesis sold 90 cars last year and Year to date 2023 sales figure is 300 cars - all models combined - which is currently 0.07% of UK market share where Kia has 6.53% and BMW 5.23% in comparison).

Granted they offer maintenance included in price, but a reliable car should not need anything more than servicing a year and cost of servicing is not big deal. Also, they are clueless how the owner will get car maintained beyond 5 years (they don't probably see people keeping cars longer than 5 years).

If Genesis becomes popular then I shall consider buying used.

Whilst I haven’t looked at the GV70, the Electrified G80 I bought last year was over £10k cheaper than its closest rival, the equivalent spec Mercedes EQE which worked out at just shy of £90,000.
