  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2018 G80 Sport with 20 K on it.( My third Genesis) and the silver door trim has oxidation on it. Any Idea on what to use to bring it back to new condition?

Most likely you will have to replace the oxidized trim. This issue of "spotting" is where the lacquer has been compromised. Short of buffing out all of the remaining lacquer it won't match/be fixed.

There is already an extensive thread on this issue here. Search is your friend.

if u are in Canada then u are of luck, the dealer doesn't change it, so I have to wrap it in gloss black the trim around the window and it looks great!
for the grill and side trim, just bought chrome polishing and it good to go, and if you want for further protection, ceramic coating it by urself with carpro dlux, very easy to use

Just went to the dealer today and they are going to replace them free under the warranty. Sweet!!!

I've had the window trim replaced twice under warranty. After the latest replacement I protected it with "The Last Coat TLC2". This is a consumer grade Ceramic coating ($50USD MSRP/16 oz versus ~$100/4 oz high grade commercial stuff). I've had this on for about 3 months and so far no new pitting/oxidation.

I never applied a Ceramic coating. You apply like a liquid wax?

Yes, apply like wax, but in MUCH smaller quantity. Wipe on, wait for it to haze, buff out. IMO it's easier to apply than wax because ceramic coatings (CCs) are typically in a liquid format unlike wax which is a thicker consistency. Similar to wax, but even more critical is ensuring the paint surface is perfectly clean. I wash, clay bar then apply IsoPropyl Alcohol to surface that will be coated. You want to remove all dirt and wax before CCing. Goggle "ceramic coating preparation" for more information. CC will last must longer than a wax. TLC claims 6 months. Commercial grade CC has claims/warranties of 1 -3 years.

I had my 2011 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 professionally ceramic coated at 50K miles. They did minor paint repair (polished out swirls) and applied coating to entire car painted surfaces. This made keeping car clean much easier. Dirt is less likely to adhere and washes off more easily. CC does not provide protection from road debris (rocks, empty beer cans thrown at your car, etc.) like a film/wrap. I chose to film A-pillar forward on my 2018 G80 to protect front of vehicle. No paint chips on front end after 31k Miles!
