  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this... I noticed about a month ago that the paint along the top of the trim piece just below my trunk lid looks like it's peeling (see photo below). Is this something that warranty would cover?

Cheers!

Yes warranty.

Did you buy new or used? That almost looks like it has been repainted...

Also, if new, would depend on year and mileage. Not sure how long the warranty on the paint goes. Paint, electronics, powertrain all have different warranty periods...

Hyundai OEM paint warranty is 3 years 36,000 miles.

Thanks for all the replies. The car is still within the 3/36 Warranty. Took it to dealer and they wanted me to bring it back when a Hyundai Rep is going to be there. Just found out today that the rep won't be there until 4/30... don't really appreciate having to wait a month for a rep to look at what is pretty obviously a warranty covered issue. Contacted @Hyundai via Twitter this morning letting them know that I never had this kind of issue getting a warrantied item fixed on my 3 previous vehicles (all Lexus). Almost immediately got a DM back from @Hyundai asking for VIN and contact info. so I'm hopeful about that and will update this thread with more info as I get it.

Also, upon closer inspection in better light I noticed that the issue isn't just along the top of this trim piece. There are spots & "blotches" exhibiting this issue all over this piece as shown more clearly in the image below.

Thanks again for all the replies!

Is your color the Pearl White? I have a small spot in the right front bumper cider that swings back to the wheel well. The small spot has no paint. Mine is 2012 with under 1500 miles.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes, it's Pearl White.

Got a call from Hyundai after my Twitter exchange but they basically just repeated what the dealer said. Asked where I was and after telling them Kansas City she said they had just had 3 reps in this area "retire" and only have one rep covering the entire Midwest. Told me I'd just have to wait until he got back to KC on the 30th to look at it.

Haha I like how their personnel problems is a perfectly acceptable excuse to make the customer wait several weeks for some service. It's a paint problem; what is the rep going to do? Take some pics and send it to a PAINT shop thats what. Hyundai is not going to fix it, they are going to sub it out! Cheese and rice!!! Hyundai should have you take it to a body shop that they use and have their paint experts rule on it and then fix it! End of story!

Forgive me if I put ZERO faith in the company rep as being the Midwest one he/she is most likely the same one who said that my steering wheel vibration was perfectly normal! Despite after r&ring the motor mounts the normal vibration disappeared! Mucking Foron if they don't have a ODB2 code they are clueless and subsequently useless! Ok rant done! Sorry folks my craw is just about full of poor CS from Hyundai.

I wonder if someone got carried away with a polisher??? It could be a lot of possibilities starting at the factory and continuing to the owner.

Looking at the photos and enlarging them, it looks like damage to the clear top coat that was caused by a strong cleaner like purple stuff. Just my opinion though.

I have the same issue on my black genesis....didn't notice it until I was washing it last night and felt the peel off in the same spot. Going to take it to the dealer soon.

That is NOT over buffing.. If this expensive car has a Yugo paint job and one "buff" by the dealer to deliver or wax the car causes this to show up later, lemon law again.

I just picked up a 2011 4.6 with extended warranty to the 7 year mark for everything. I have the same paint problem in the same spot as OP. Pearl white as well. Any of you ever get this fixed?
