paint problems . 2013 Genesis Sedan

I purchased a new sedan in March 2013. On delivery I noticed one small chip which has now become a much larger chip bordered by smaller chips. The paint is chipping on the drivers door sill - at the bend where the door sill transitions to the kick panel. You can easily see the chipped surface when the door is closed. Has anyone heard of similar paint problems?

So before accepting you did not have the small chip repaired. If you noted it at time of delivery the dealer may cover the repair under warranty. I recall on the day I purchased my car it had a very small ding down low on the driver door. no paint damage. I told them I would not accept the car with the ding(smaller than 1/4 inch). the dealer called a dint repairman (no paint needed) and had it taken out that day.

I wish my car had a factory paint problem. I'd love to repaint it Plum Purple (like the Challenger factory paint). Nothing wrong with the silver but it does make the car slightly invisible.

Could you post some pictures of your paint? I am curious how bad the chips are. I think you can ask the dealer to repaint that section under the warranty. I do too have a very small paint problem on my car (very small paint drip), but it is not very visible. For me, unless it is something very noticeable, I would not take my car to the dealer because I'm too afraid that they might mess it up even more.

I have currently had my 2013 rspec in for paint since monday. there were a few scratches and dings on it when i picked it up. They did a "we owe" slip on it and are now taking care of it.
I got a genesis loaner for a couple of days. Its a v6, not as loaded as my car, but not stripped like a rental either. They gave me a ride to the airport while i am out of town on business.

Update on paint issue: Dealer viewed chips on door sill and verified it was warranty issue which would be covered. Incidentally, when one Google's issue, serveral people pop up with identical issue; that is, this is not a one-off event. Something as basic as paint application goes to the heart of quality control. Disturbing.

Not sure I agree with you on that. Chipping implies it was painted correctly and something has hit the surface to start the chipping later. Given the location, that sounds plausible. Runs, drips, orange peel, etc. are more of a QC issue. My late build 2013 has what I would consider to be very good to excellent paint.

When a car is prepped and shipped, they attach foam and plastic to various points on the car to protect it in transit. If the car wasn't prepped correctly at the dealer it's possible they damaged the paint, which is slowly chipping/failing over time.

Have the same problems on my 2013 Gennie sedan. The car is silver so the chips show as black spots from what is I assume the primer. Dealer won't do anything. Says they must be rock chips. Think it is a design problem. The sill is a sharp edge that protrudes and when a foot hits that edge the paint chips off. Solution we'll try is to have it repainted and then have the 3M scotchgard film applied in a thin strip. All at my expense. The rest of the car is fine.

If it is a plastic part that exists on a lot of front pieces, the black could be bare plastic. I had a problem with my tow hook cover on the bumper (3" x 2" removable rectangle that covers the tow hook), so I bought a new one from a dealer that is unpainted, and it is black plastic. On my original tow hook cover, the paint started peeling when I used a high pressure car wash. It is apparently not easy to get paint to stick well to plastic.

Our town has water restrictions that typically start in early/mid August. The restrictions ban the use of in-ground sprinklers and car washing (but strangely allow for less efficient manual watering and sprinklers). I haven't washed my car since, and will not be going to the town self-serve pressure washing place.

Hopefully the ban lifts soon when the fall rains come and I can get some pictures with the fall foliage colors in the background.

I was out of town arriving after a long trip, and the self service car wash I used had the highest water pressure I have ever seen. I got a little carried away since there were a lot of bugs on my front bumper and was trying to remove them with the hand-held sprayer about an inch away from the paint. Next time I will soap down the car, and try to remove the bugs with a micro-fiber towel. I don't think there is a problem with a pressure washer under normal use.
