  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I just took delivery of a Platinum Silver Genesis V8 with Tech Package. Today I was trying to pair my phone through Bluetooth to the car. The problem is that when I go to the Phone Menu and select Pair Phone (Meaning I am in the selection menu that says Pair Phone) it will not let me select it when I push on the DIS button, or it is selecting and not doing anything.

Has anyone experienced this or am I doing something wrong. Reading the DIS manual, it justs states to select that option and then a window will come up that asks you to search the car bluetooth with the phone to initiate the pairing. Which I have never gotten.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What kind of phone, and are you sure bluetooth is turned on in the phone and the phone is displaying its bluetooth icon?

I have tried two different phones a HTC diamond and a motorola i870. bluetooth is on for the phone, I have actually used both phones with other vehicles and headsets before . I really do not even get that far though the DIS is not letting me select the option so that I can use my phone to find the system. I am wandering if there is a way to reboot the system some way.

I did not have a problem. Never had a Bluetooth phone before ... but my new 'cheapie' Motorola paired right up.

4.6 Tech, Black/Black

Gencat,

Thanks for your response. I have referred the issue to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle, hoping that maybe they will be able to tell me if they forgot to do something pre-delivery or if they can contact a Hyundai Tech.

I am guessing all you did was start the car, or just the entertainment system, pressed the Info/Phone button, until you were in the phone menu. Went down to Connect Phone, then highlighted Pair a Phone, and clicked the scroll wheel (As far as I get and nothing happens here) and then it asked you to use the phone to search for the Car's Bluetooth system?

Unfortunately, I do not have high hopes for the service department as they are not familiar with the car yet. And it sounds like (from searching the forums) that no one else has encountered my problem yet. I guess we will see....

Actually, I did encounter such a problem. For a few weeks after I took delivery, the bluetooth worked just fine. Then one day it just wouldn't pair up - the dealer ended up having to replace my stereo and send the original one off to HMA for diagnosis.

Shonuff,

Ouch. Do you know exactly what they replaced? Is it like a box sitting separate from the screen and changer? or is it all build in and they had to scrap the whole thing? I hope it was just them unplugging a unit under the dash and then plugging in a new one?

Also could you describe if it was the same symptom that I am experiencing. Would it actually go past the Pair a Phone option and ask to search from the phone, and then never pair after that. Or would it not even allow you to select the Pair a Phone option?

I can't seem to find it, but there is a thread in here somewhere that has someone with a problem with an HTC phone. I seem to recall they had an "Ah Ha" moment and got the phone to work fine.

When you bring up the "connect phone" menu on the left, what does it say on the right? Does it say "Pair Phone" only, or are there some existing connections showing. [see pg 152 in the DIS manual]. If it shows "Pair Phone" only, when you move the selector knob to the RIGHT, does the "Pair Phone" choice get highlighted? If yes, what happens when you depress the selector knob? If there are existing connections showing, suggest you use the option to "delete all pairings." Someone at the dealer might have paired up a phone to "test" the system. If the system is on automatic [see settings], the first thing it does is it starts looking for the pre-existing phone. This may be interfering with you pairing your phone.

If you can select "connect phone" on the left and then select "pair phone" on the right, and nothing happens when you depress the selector knob, I would think you have a system problem requiring dealer attention.

And yes, the headend of the DIS is all one unit, including the screen, DVD changer, disk drive, et al. :(

My issue was exactly what Bayway described. The system wouldn't do anything after hitting the knob. Just sat there. Since my phone had been paired up with the Gen for weeks, incompatibility issues were ruled out pretty quickly.

By the way, it only took the dealer a few hours to take care of, and it works just fine now.

BaywayRic,

Yes, when I have the Pair Phone option selected nothing happens when I depress the selector knob.

ShoNuff,

Thanks again for the information it seems like I might have to have the thing replaced like you did. Now to convince my dealer of that. So you got a whole new screen, and changer along with the actual stereo unit?

Thanks to you both.

Thanks for the removal instructions. It does explain it better and if they replace the audio unit I would assume they would leave the screen and the changer until alone, and replacing the audio until shown below in the diagram in the PDF.

I did speak to the service dept again and their service tech was saying that after you select the Pair A Phone option that the system will "Voice Prompt" you.

Since the manual makes no mention of this, could someone explain to me in detail exactly what is done, the response from the unit audible or on the screen.

Don't know that I would let this guy take it apart. :(

The only time the car "talks to you" is with NAVI Voice Guidance ON.

I have to concur with Bayway's advice not to let that technician anywhere near your car. There simply is no voice prompt involved when pairing up the phone. This is clearly a warranty-covered replacement; if the dealer you purchased from is being stubborn/resistant you might want to try another dealership... or call HMA directly.

Thanks for the help. It is just sometimes frustrating when something like this does not work, and your new vehicle needs to be taken apart. I will see about going to a different dealer, than the one I bought my car from. The selling dealer is actually about 44 miles away so it will save me some time as well. Even if I went there once just to show them the problem, I would have to go back to have the replacement done after they finally agreed. So that is 4 trips at a minimum.

I did not think that there was a voice prompt for this feature as the DIS manual is fairly clear, but wanted to confirm, just in case it forgot to mention something. I will try to post my experiences back later just in case it helps anyone else in the future that might encounter this issue.

I have a 4.6 Tech package that I got from the dealer about a week ago. I have been experiencing technical difficulties with the "pairing" of my bluetooth "intermittenly" through the week. Is anyone experiencing a "SDS loading in background" message during startup of the car? It appears that my bluetooth looses the connection from time to time with the car. I have a Blackberry 8310 (never had issues pairing with my previous vehicle). Checked the "U-Connect" website-maker of the bluetooth system in the vehicle and no issues with my type of phone on their site. My local Hyundai dealer is aware of the situation-car so new that their techs don't know much about the system...so long story short they have concluded to ordering a whole new phone/navi unit and will be replacing it due to this issue. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

I have a BlackBerry 8830. Once I set it to autoconnect, no problems. (V6 Tech)

cvuong-

I did get the same message displayed, however it was accompanied by other problems-loss of audio, loss of steering wheel controls (voice command, volume, etc), inability of radio to tune.

It wasn't anything to do with the phone, I hadn't paired it up yet.

According to Hyundai, it was some of the wiring in the telescoping steering wheel, at least that's what I was told.

I had trouble getting my phone to pair also. Called Verizon from my driveway and it took her about 2 minutes after I told her I had a Hyundai Genesis. Why she seemed to know exactly what to do I don't know.
