  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pano sunroof

Ok sure! Good because when I was looking for a Genesis that was a 'must have' option! :)

First thing I'm doing is making sure my insurance covers it

Enjoy your pano crap while you can. My 2016 had the entire roof replaced in 2017 due to rattles and creaks etc. It is now going on week 4 of trying to get it into the dealer to get the roof replaced AGAIN! Rattles like never before. And I am getting the BS story of "we have no loaner cars". WTF kind of dealership doesn't have loaner cars? Will be my last Genesis and Hyundia dealer experience ever.[/QUOTE
Just had the 4th pano installed about 2 months ago. It’s starting to creak again.

I'm curious. Do you open it frequently? I have had no problems on three cars, but I never open them so that may make a difference. Can't imagine why you are having so many problems unless it is not being installed properly.

I too very rarely open mine (I like to leave the shade cover open) and haven’t had any problems in my G80 or my 2012 Sonata.

I leave it in the popped up position almost all year round, unless it’s freezing outside. I like the fresh air rather than coming from the vents. Each time they’ve replaced the roof, they verified that it was making a racket, and there was no repair for it...just replace it. I happen to really like the car and my lease is up in 4 months but, if I do get another one, I’ll forgo the roof. I just hope that now it’s going to be a “Genesis” experience, that also means the service department will be totally separate. Service experience has been abysmal.

Of course it is meant to be opened, but that may allow the body to twist and stress more, thus causing the noise. IMO. they should reduce the size if that would help, or eliminate them. Looks cool for a few minutes a year in my case.

Guess there is no "final solution" the roof rattle. I thought Id check back to see if there was. I have had the entire roof replaced twice, the sunroof replaced twice and back and forth to the dealer for adjustments dozens of times. The latest strategy has been to shave some seal off the sunroof and apply some GM high end lube. Didn't work. HMA is coming out again to see what the problem is. I think the problem is and I can duplicate the noise just by pressing down on the sun roof - sounds like seal squeak and poor fit. Seems the sunroof just isn't seating properly or deep enough to not wiggle / shift around and make noise.

I have the sunroof either all the way open or popped up every day at some point, in town or on the highway.

I'm not sure if there would be, if you visit other forums with cars that have pano I'm sure they have the same issues, its not just our cars. When you have surfaces that needs a tight seal, with movable parts I'm sure it will make noise sooner or later. just nature of the beast.

Does anyone know why I cant get my pano sunroof to do anything other than vent? I feel like its gotta be something stupid that im missing but I cant seem to even find the switch to open it!

It’s a dual functioning switch pull to tilt slide to open.

Had no problems at all with my 2009 Scion TC, 2013 Scion TC, and haven’t had any issues with my current 2015 Genesis 5.0

The pano sunroof on my '15 Ultimate shattered on a very cold, snowy day while I was cruising down the interstate at 70 mph, with about 17k miles on the car.

Scared the bejeezus out of me, and it was interesting driving to the dealership with snow falling thru the busted glass into the interior (there were too many pieces of glass to close the cover).

There were no other cars near me and no overpass, so a stone didn't get kicked up or dropped.

I attribute it to the warm air from the heater warming the inside of the glass while the outside was frigid.

Forrest, the service manager at Asheville Hyundai (the best service manager east of the Pecos) apologized and said it was covered by warranty since it was obvious that the glass had blown outward, unlike if a foreign object hit it.

I also got the trunk repainted on the dealership's dime because the glass shards scratched the crap out of it.

Now I have 28,000 miles on the odometer, and I'm actually typing this on the same dealership's customer computer while waiting to hear what they can do for my creaking sunroof.

It started a couple of thousand miles ago, and is getting intolerable.

Forest just told me that the sunroof seals need cleaned and lubed, and since it's raining I need to bring it back on a dry day.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I had 4 roofs replaced because of the intolerable noise. They tried the lube, never worked. Actually, the last one that they replaced was the best. No noise, even after 5 months but, then the car got totaled so I can’t say if it would have started again. Tons of people complaining about the same thing. Definitely has to be a design flaw. I would have been much happier with just a single sunroof, as would many others. Good luck!

TAKing mine in re pano. Apparently there is a tech notice - engineer to review.

Mine starts rattling slightly as soon as the weather gets around freezing (our city streets are quite riddled with patches, potholes, and other imperfections). Only certain road surfaces will produce the rattle, but it's a little frustrating to hear.

When the weather is too sloppy here I drive my "beater" a 20yr old Honda Accord. It's sunroof still works like new and doesn't make a sound open, tilted, or closed! That car just keeps on giving.

WHAT IS THE UV PROTECTION IN THESE SUN ROOFS

Not sure exactly, but leaving it open while the car is parked doesn't seem to create a major heat issue. It cools down quickly once started. I assume the glass has a UV protection layer just like the rest of the car's glass.
