  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought a 2015 Genesis in February and in March had trouble with the sunroof being off track. It was making noise and slow to close then it stopped closing all together. Need help fixing this problem

This is hard to diagnose and fix via a forum. At this point the motor may be burned out and that could mean significant disassembly to repair. Did you try cleaning and lubricating the tracks when it was working?

It does seem that these cars have a good share of sunroof problems. I've read how several have had them replaced under warranty and it was expensive to do if they had to pay for it. Most were replaced due to rattle.

I had a '15 that was into the dealer under warranty. It started to struggle opening and closing and eventually was stuck open. Sorry to say they had to replace the tracks. I only use it occasionally, but it still seems to struggle like the tracks are dirty all the time. You can try to clean the tracks, but not sure that will help. Good luck.

Last time mine was binding and closing slowly or 1/2 way then stopping and reopening they replaced the plastic rails between the glass and the sheet metal. If your out of warranty that along with greasing the track would be the least expensive attempt to fix it. This fixed my Genesis but when I had the issue with my Sonata they had to replace the metal rails which is much more expensive. The plastic rails are easy to remove. I would take them off and try opening and closing the glass with them off to see if that helps at all. You can also clean everything up while they are off.

Mine also goes slow and gets stuck when closing. I just don't open it that way anymore. I did use some plumbers silicone grease around the pop out piece which helped the rattling/crackling sounds. I tried to clean those tracks and put grease on them but they were pretty gummed up/corroded so I decided it wasn't worth the effort to try and get the slide mechanism working properly. Thanks for the tip RyanB i thought they were metal rails, maybe if I get ambitious one day I will tackle those again.

I have 35k on my 15 5.0 and the sunroof works well. However I just dont use it all that much. The car lives inside which IMO helps. I also performed the TSB on the sunroof and it has been flawless. I think the chemicals that automated car washes use dry them out?

Does anybody know how to replace the plastic guides on a 2012 sedan? surely those should be available somewhere
