  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi there,
I have this rattling sound coming from my roof. I read couple of threads about this issue here and what i did first was i took the car to dealership. They said they serviced the roof and it solved that sound coming off. There was no rattle sound anymore.

But i have figured over last week was, that sound is only coming when the car is outside in the hot sun for longer period of time, and when i drive this annoying sounds comes for like half to hour until the car/roof cools down. This sound never come in the morning time when car is outside overnight. Rattle sound comes only when it is parked outside in the sun and it is very hot.

This is a very strange situation. I called dealership for the issue and they told me, bring the car back and a tech will come with you for a test drive but until i reach there and if the weather is not sunny, there;s no sound and they wont be able to identify.

Is anyone has faced this issue?
Thanks

It's probably the plastic bellows that help to reduce airflow around the rails when opened. They tend to be loose and heat exacerbates the issue. If you reach up and apply a little pressure to the left and right sides of the sunroof opening I bet it stops.

I went to dealership 2 times and they still do not seem to fix it. I took mechanic for a drive and she hear that sound coming off from sunroof and she said, there's no permanent fix to this. Genesis does have problem with roof, in some cars its more and in some cars, its less. She told me to put my car there all day third time, in order to have it fixed. It is still under warranty so if they cannot fix it this time, i'll call Hyundai it self about this.

Take my advice. Live with it. Or, get the factory service manual and repair it yourself.

In my short experience dealing with the service department at Hyundai, I have been amazed at the general level of incompetence. Things like not knowing that module A does not connect to module B, not disconnecting the battery before doing electrical work, etc.

It's likely that you will drop it off only for them to make the problem worse. Then they'll deny that they caused the problem, then they'll propose something like replacing the entire sunroof for some ungodly sum on your dime. There will be a lot of passing the buck, and in the meantime, you will be stuck without your car or stuck driving their crappy loaner.

I think you sound right. Their mechanics does not seem to know much, just waste of the time. I'll go this last time, and lets see what theycan do. I like Hyundai but if they gonna give this kind of crappy customer service even when car is in warranty, i dont think i'll stick with them in future.

I was looking at it and it looks like getting a roll of thin butyl rubber and sticking it on the plastic bellows would stop the rattling noise. Just keep it from rattling on the frame.
