Parking the G90 is still tricky for me after a couple months….embarrassed to admit:
1. 4 wheel steering really changes the angles and the timing of getting to the angles.
2. You have to relearn years of practice and timing.
3. I haven’t parallel parked that much but my first couple attempts were embarrassing. Again the angles and timing need a complete reprogramming from years of experience with two wheel steering.
4. The hood is long and deceiving, and I have activated the emergency braking several times with just head first generic parking in multi level parking garage for work. Scares the hell out of you.
5. I find that I have to straighten out the car more than I would like to admit with simple head on parking. Again 4 wheel steering just increases maneuverability in very short distances!
6. I am not at the point of whipping this thing into any parking spots and being perfectly centered with regularity yet.
7. Whipped into a spot Saturday with a forward parallel park, and scuffed the rim. I was furious! Had some social lubrication in my system and got a little frisky with my parking acumen that just doesn’t translate with the 4 wheel steering. That tires rim protector had some damage already…will get a new rim when I get new front tires. Found brand new OEM rims for 300-ish and free shipping at Minnesota rim company.
8. If you take your time these issues above go away, obviously?
9. Car still amazes me!
Top Speed:
Wish I had a recording on Saturday afternoon. Got Into a pissing contest on a long 3 lane rural uphill beautiful highway stretch, location details omitted to protect the innocent. Was going roughly a 100mph uphill only a few cars for traffic. BMW 5 series came up from behind and wanted to show his stuff.
We had reached a 2-3 mile long plateau before the next uphill stretch and he decided to blow me away on the far right lane. I am in the far left lane with the empty center lane in between. The drag race was on. He was at 120mph when I then hit 130mph and pulled away and he gave up.
The seven series is the competition!
Just a nice spurt of 130mph and it had plenty more…would have made a nice viral short video with shots of the odometer, the BMW to the right, back to the odometer and tach, forward shot of the empty 3 lanes, back to the 5 series BMW eating dust and giving up demoralized; Toby Keith I am as good once as I ever was for the music.
