  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently bought a 2011 Genesis Sedan 4.6. Had to have the electronic emergency brake assembly replaced recently because a 6 inch strip of the emergency/parking brake literally broke off inside the rotor hub. Replaced both rear rotors (to keep even wear). The electronic emergency brake assembly was installed by a back yard mechanic friend.

It worked fine for a couple of weeks (maybe used it 4 times) but the other day I parked and turned ON the electronic EPB and I heard a loud screeching sound. I managed to click the electronic emergency parking brake (EEPB) switch to off by pulling up on it TWICE and it stopped the screeching (ie it released).
When I click the EEPB ON to now test it- it immediately starts screeching as though a “stop” sensor or actuator (?) is no longer functioning. Nothing is signaling the EEPB to stop (since engaged)/ or to tell the car that the EEPB is now in place to hold the brake.

A shop told me they could look at it (next day) but he said it sounds like an issue for a dealership. I want to avoid dealerships.
To summarize, previously when I turned on the EEPB, it would make the regular hum and click noise. But now it’s a hum and SCREECH noise until I disengage it using the lower dash switch.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Good chance is is corrosion and/or wear over the years. Your options are to go to your guy that perhaps has never seen this particular setup or go to the dealer that may have worked on many of them and knows them well.
Your choice, but sometime the long term cheapest way to do something is to spend more money.

I work at a hyundai genesis dealer. My 3.8 with 139000 miles had the same exact problem. Its decently common. It was pricey though. My employee pay was 445 on it.

Just disconnect the two epb fuses and have no parking brake at all. That’s what I did and no noise at all. It beats spending $1100 (eBay) for the part and no telling how much to install.

I have the same problem.. how did ya Fix it..? Thanks

Use GDS-VCI to deactive EPB and then change new EPB brake shoes, and then active EPB. It will reset EPB.

On the rear hubs there are rubber caps. If you pop them off, put them at top dead center, you will see a toothed ring. This is the e-brake pad adjustment. Use a screw driver to turn the ring and go all the way till it stops then back it up 6 clicks. I did this with the car on the ground, but I’m sure it’s much easier if you take the wheel off. Just make sure you chock the front wheels cause you’re gonna need to put in in Neutral to spin the hub. I think the problem is your ECM has stripped gears. It’s a screw drive. ($3500 replacement at the dealer). You need to relieve a little tension so the gear still bites the screw. Probably fail again at some point but this will get the noise to stop and buy you some time to find a used ECM.
