  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

parking sensor alert will go off for no reason during a complete stop at red light. No real pattern, could be front or one of the side sensors. Doesn’t do it all the time. Any ideas. Thanks

Make sure your sensors are clean. Those little body-colored circles (roughly the size of a dime) on your bumpers/around your car.

This has already been covered in several threads here. Probably due to interference from other cars around you with proximity sensors. For me it seems to be mostly Teslas.

Look at the car in front of you. It probably had the little round sensors in the bumper too. Mcc mention Tesla but I get it a lot from Fords and a Jag.

Is it the forward collision sensors or the parking sensors?

the little round sensors are for parking only and only activate under 9mph and as stated receive interference from other makes, BMW,Tesla, Ford, Dodge trigger mine.

forward collision sensor is a different system it does not use the little round sensors, it uses the big Smart Cruise sensor in the front of the grille

Parking sensors. Only has happened when other cars are around. Thanks for clarifying.

Happens to me as well. No rhyme or reason to it, and no known solution for it. It's a minor annoyance.

I did not know this, thanks. Ours does it occasionally, but I never knew why. Of course I was never concerned enough to actually look into it...

For me it's most common when I am stopped behind a Ford pickup truck. Took me a few months to figure out you could easily, i.e. one button push, turn off the parking assist. Still learning how to remember to turn it back on before I'm actually trying to park.

Just not worth the risk of turning if off and forgetting to turn it back on before parking. If you don’t get too close to other cars at a light you can minimize the beeping. I can tolerate it for the short traffic light.

This is a common annoyance/issue on all vehicles that have parking assist sensors.

On my 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T....
- This occurs pulling up behind another vehicle at a stop sign/red light.
- More frequent during hot weather (+90F).
- I get the warning sound and YELLOW indicator (getting close) on dash. Rarely do I see a RED indicator (getting close to hitting something).
- Warning is usually from front not rear.
- When alert occurs it's signals intermittently/irregularly unlike when parking in garage where it's constant and goes from yellow to red as I approach garage wall.
-Occurs when pulling up behind a wide variety of vehicle manufacturers and models.

I can live with the periodic minor annoyance and keep it on/active.

I hypothesize the cars are communicating with each other; plotting to take over the world (Terminator-Skynet 0.9 beta) and exterminate us human based life forms. As soon as fully self-driving cars are ubiquitous we are doomed (I Robot).

For me, it's usually when there's either a Ford or BMW product around. That includes their sub brands... Mini, Lincoln, etc...

It’s odd that I have a 2017 Lexus and it never does that.

Just multiple vehicles at a enter section chatting with each other and messing with their owners minds! ☺️

I hypothesize your Lexxie is using a different parking sensor technology that is less prone to "false" alerts (midget in bumper with button connected to dash warning indicator ;) ). Please don't report me to "politically incorrect" police.

Genesis, and most other manufactures use ULTRASONIC parking sensors which are more susceptible to rain/wind, mud/grime covering sensor and other nearby ultrasonic sensors. These are externally visible dime sized indentations on the bumpers.

ELECTROMAGNETIC parking sensors are less susceptible to outside forces with fewer/no "false alerts". These are hidden inside/behind bumper and not visible externally.

Are you actually suggesting that these cars' proximity sensors are falsely alarmed by other cars' proximity sensor systems? As if the car manufacturers didn't think the car buyers would drive near other modern cars... I find that hard to believe.

If you find it hard to believe that most car manufacturers are using the same technology (and possibly the same parts from the same supplier), then I doubt that I could do anything to persuade you otherwise.
It's a limited case problem that started when some manufacturers (possibly unexpectedly) started leaving their rear facing backup sensors powered even when they were moving forward.

Yep, that is it exactly. Leave a little more space when you stop at a light and it helps.
