  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 R-Spec Sedan purchased in February 2014. Approaching 40,000 km Love it. Recently, the obstacle warning light and alarm started going off while driving and no obstacles present. I took it to the dealer who said that three of the four sensors on the front bumper had been damaged by strikes from stones. Cost to repair $1500. I say BS. Firstly, no apparent damage. Secondly, I think a bumper is likely to take a few stones and shouldn't the sensors be expected to withstand the occasional hit? It would seem that every car with an obstacle warning system would be prone to this issue. Has anybody else had this experience and has the dealer fixed the problem?

Time for a second opinion.

A dealer told me once that I needed an entire new instrument panel on a car with a spastic oil pressure gage - also wanted $1500 and that was for a "new used" panel.

I replaced the oil sending unit for a few bucks and that was all the fix it needed.

p.s. do you have any warranty left?

I believe that those items are covered under warranty for three years or 36,000 miles in the USA, not sure what your warranty is.
If they were damaged by stones, it might be covered under your insurance.

I paid for an extended warranty, so mine will be covered for 10 years, 100,000 miles.

If you have the HPP (Hyundai) warranty, I believe someone has mentioned in another thread that electronic sensors like these are not covered. Probably a good idea to double check.

Well, he is at ~40,000 km, that means its less than 36k miles, and it's 2013 - which should be covered under factory warranty.
