  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It finally rained in California and I used my wipers on my new (used 2015 )for the first time. The wipers work in the fixed frequency and automatic modes but not in the low or high intermittent modes. Anything I can do or is it a trip to the dealer?

figured this out.
the wiper frequency markers when the automatic wipe mode is selected are for how fast the automatic wipe mode will work. these cars do not have interval wiping. I think this is somewhat misleading from what is projected on the display screen.

How is it misleading? They are rain sensitive in the proper position.
AUTO : The rain sensor located on
the upper end of the windshield
glass senses the
amount of rainfall and controls
the wiping cycle for the
proper interval. The more it
rains, the faster the wiper
operates. When the rain
stops, the wiper stops.To
vary the speed setting, turn
the speed control knob (B).

because below the auto setting are a " high" and " low" setting.

in my previous car this referred to intermittent high and low frequencies, that occurred continuously, not related to the amount of rain on the windshield.
correct me if I'm wrong but it does not seem like there is an intermittent wiping on this 2015 G80
German versus Korean culture I guess

High is fast and constant
Low is slow and constant
Intermittent is a stop and go pace that many systems allow you to preset
Intermittent on many cars has been replaced by rain sensing. You can set the sensitivity, the computer does the rest. As you increase your speed on the road the wiper will compensate b speeding up too.

I have no idea of German culture on this. I've had cars from a couple of different countries (but not Germany) with rain sensitive and they all worked the same way. Harder the rain, the faster they go, no rain stops them with no fiddling around.

FYI. after 4 wipes they will also turn on the headlights. After some time of no wiping, it turns the lights off again.

on my 2015 this is one of the "features" that I'm not too keen about. It's tricky to get it adjusted just right with rain that just beads up on the windshield (as I think the sensor just measures rain running in front of it to activate). Also, I dont believe the automatic headlight function is a feature on my car but I'll pay more attention to it next time.

Whatever it is, I don't like the auto sensing option, at least not to be the only interval option. There are many times which I want the wipers to wipe less fast than what the sensor does. Many times, the sensor seems to go nuts and begins wiping fast, despite hardly any rain. The way to slow it down is to quickly adjust the speed selector. It would have been nice to have the standard style interval option as well.

I find the Auto sense set in the middle setting is perfect 99% of the time. it does what I expect it to do, and it efficient at it.

My Lexus RCF was about the same in this regard, as was my Chrysler which both had rain sense wipers. some of my other cars that had the "intermittent" style were not effective IMO. To slow and the window got to wet effecting visibility or to fast resulting in squealing because the window wasn't wet enough.

Auto works as I expect it to, and I don't mess with it once active, sitting in stop and go or 70mph on the highway, it works well.

there is a setting in the dash for it if I recall. and it activates after 4 swipes of the wipers within 10-15 seconds, if it is 1 or 2 swipes in 15-20 seconds they will not come on, and if it slows to this pace they will turn off if already on.

the sensor works by the total internal reflection principle: an infrared light is beamed at a 45-degree angle into the windshield from the interior — if the glass is wet, less light makes it back to the sensor, and the wipers turn on

what I think is that here is NO continuously intermittent wipe option, like in my German car, and the High-Low settings correspond to the frequency (or more scientifically) threshold of the auto wipe mode. This would explain why I did not see any wipes that day- there was not enough water to trigger a sweep

most likely.

FWIW I don't recall any vehicle I have owned with Rain-Sense wipers having an intermittent only option. it's usually one or the other.

also FWIW, a quick tap up is a "mist" wipe, usually one sweep but if you hold it, it will sweep while you hold it. I use that for situations where the auto isn't engaging, the sucky part is you have to remember to tap back own, because when you hold the stalk up for mist then release, it puts it in off mode.
IMO it makes more sense for off to be at the bottom of the stalk, not the second option behind the momentary, MIST-AUTO-HIGH-LOW-OFF. then the default setting is always AUTO. That part I think Hyundai got wrong.

.

If you want this, buy a Mercedes, but don't recommend that after owning one.

This has nothing to do with a wiper issue but does anyone know where to get replacement wipers like the factory ones? My OEM set worked great for over a year and a half and then I got a new set from my dealer. While they look very similar they don't sit as flush under the hood and out of sight and also have an ugly big white Hyundai logo. They are also skipping and streaking after just a few months.

This is the blade arm and blade for a 2018 G80 sport. I used my VIN.

If you reset to your VIN on that site then search on wiper it will give you the specific part numbers for your car, though I suspect they are likely the same as wiper blades are universal from 2015-2019 as far as I can tell, there is only one set of part numbers for all versions of the 2015 Genesis and 2017> G80.

FWIW. You can buy just the rubber blade from any Hyundai/Genesis dealer.

Part numbers are
98351-B1000 left.
98361-B1000 right.

There is no need to swap the blade arms, the rubber blade is ~$8.00 per side. Most dealers will not tell you this because the whole assembly is >$20 per side, but you must have the OEM blade arm for those to work. The first set I posted is the whole assembly, blade arm, blade, and the rail spring that holds the rubber in place.

have owned, don't disagree.

Thread drift- I sold my Mercedes 350CLK for a 2015 G80- will swap for a G70 ASAP.Still not available in California

I really do not see what one is paying for in a Mercedes. My G80 is different, but just as luxurious. The G80 is too big for me but I bet the G70 will be superior to the CLK in every way. They say Mercedes last longer, but who knows.

So--- why do people pay so much to drive a Mercedes or BMW?

status, more than anything.

MBZ and BMWs are good cars, but IMO not really worth the added premium one pays for the name. I'm not into name brand things, I drive what I drive because I like the vehicle, I've owned cars from most of the major players over the years, I drive what drive me, not because of the logo on the car.

Today I drove 535 miles in the rain. It varied from mist to drizzle to downpour and varied every few miles. When it started this morning, I flipped the lever on and never touched it. Most was highway at speeds up to 80. Passing trucks was easy as the speed changed as needed. Between the auto wipers and SCC, I mostly just steered. Tomorrow will also have a lot of rain and I have 450 miles to go.

Ok more drift- I share your opinion of them, but how do you think MB/BMW drivers view us? If they , or anyone else even thinks about the image for a Genesis

I could answer that having had this discussion with a few self righteous bmw and MBZ owners but most here would take offense.
