Passenger Air Bag Off Light

I just noticed that the Pass Air Bag Light is on when no one is sitting in the passenger side. I took out the manual and it appears to say that this is correct and when someone sits in the passenger side, it should go out within 4 seconds. Sure enough it did.

Is this working the same way in other peoples Genesis? It was just wierd to me that it would be on all the time until someone sat in the car. I had never noticed it before.

It works the same for me. Probably not a good design, human factors wise. If it lights up when you have a passenger, indicating a malfunction, you may not take notice of it, since it's normally on.

When I test drove the car I also noticed the PAB light, but I think it is lit to show that the airbag system is actually OFF. I had a Honda Oddysey and it also showed the lit PAB when no one was sitting on the passenger side. If it caught your attention then it is doing its job, you were aware the PAB was not active.

The PAB light is to indicate that the system is off for that side / seat, this is a warning in case little people is (for some crazy reason) seating on that seat, the weight is not enough to register as an adult, therefore the PAB is turned off. It is a regulation in USA, mandatory for every car to show that system is off, I think it all started with a very unfortunate event when someone lost his son on a 10MPH accident on a Ford last decade more or less.
