  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone have an issue with a door creak? My passenger door creaks (rather loudly) when opening it. My car had been at the dealership since 5/5 up until yesterday afternoon, 6/13 (yes, 5 weeks...), while they tried to diagnose the issue. They replaced the hinges, but nothing they did addressed the issue...

Was this at my dealership or Napleton? We recently had a 2015 Genesis in here that we replaced both hinges on the passenger front door, which didn't fix the issue. Sent it to the body shop and they found a broken weld on the A pillar I believe. That care left our dealership over a month ago though. I don't know of any others in here for that same issue though.

Wow, that's crazy. This was at Napleton though. And it went to and from their body shop twice. Now I'm no autobody expert, would that be an easy thing to see if you know what kind of issue you are looking for?

Sounds like it's the same issue. Let me do some research and find out exactly what we did to fix this other vehicle.

Ok. The tech thought it was hinges, so we sent it to the body shop. Once the body shop got in there, it appeared as though someone had over extended the door open and the extended door check ripped the sheet metal on the A pillar. They had to pull the dash out to get to the spot that was ripped to weld it up.

We'll be more than happy to attempt to fix it for you if you're interested. My service mgr is on vacation until Monday, and we are currently out of Genesis service loaners, but should have a couple more coming in tomorrow. I can get with him when he gets back on Monday to see when we can get you in.

That would be great! Thanks for looking into that for me

Awaiting callback from service dept. They did not have any Genesis loaners and said they would call me when they got one. Will update when I find out more

We're still waiting on a loaner to get back. We should have had one come back yesterday, but the glass company we use broke the windshield in a G80 they were trying to install. That was an expensive $1800 mistake. Waiting on another windshield to get here from the Dallas warehouse. Not sure what's up with the others. We have 4 Genesis loaner vehicles.

Figured I should update since I said I would. Dropped off the car on Jul 3rd. Said they would need auth from Hyundai to make the repair, which they have now as of last Wednesday Jul 11th (I have no idea when they got authorization - that's when I called and they told me they had it). From Wednesday, I was told that they needed to get a quote from a body shop, and that they would let me know when they knew what was coming next. Still have not heard anything whatsoever, will probably call again tomorrow to see what's up.

Oh - and I got put in a base model Sonata instead of a Genesis loaner
Edit:
Side note - I had always had doubts when I purchased my Genesis whether I was making a smart decision in getting the Genesis instead of a Sonata (probably the 2.0T though), but my doubts have been put to rest

Update: The service tech actually called me before I called him yesterday. Said dash was already off, sending to a body shop to fix the broken A pillar weld (as mentioned by @GarnetTy1473 above). Hope to have it back soon

How bad was this creak and what did it sound like?

For lack of a better explanation, it sounded like walking a creaky stair, but only for the last 30% of the door opening
