  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A couple of days ago, my son reclined the passenger seat and now it won't come back up into the upright position. Neither the normal seat control, nor the secondary seat control does anything. All other seat controls function as normal - both forward/reverse switches work; seat front raises/lowers; seat rear raises/lowers; lumbar support works in all directions. I've turned the car off, back on, tried it in accessory only mode (engine not running) and pulled the passenger seat fuse and reinstalled. Any other suggestions? I've searched the forums and Google searched but haven't found any solutions. I have an appointment with the evil service department but not for another two weeks. 🙄 I'd like to avoid them if possible.

Have you tried pushing up on the seat back while pressing the switch?

Yeah. Forgot to mention I tried that too. There's no click or noise when I press either button to try to get the seat back into the upright position.

If nothing is jamming it, probably a bad motor, or faulty wiring to that motor. The seat module seems to be fine, since the rest of the seat works properly. Looks like you have no choice but to involve a dealer, unfortunately. Hopefully no scuffs, scratches, dings, or other extra damage from that visit. Good luck.

Yeah, we have an appointment for next Thursday. A little over two weeks from when we originally called. Haven't been able to have anyone ride in the seat since it happened. I checked under the seat with a flashlight. Looked for a possible limit switch that might be stuck, but couldn't find anything. Nothing is jamming it that I can see. Thank you for the reply.

Any update? Happened to me over the weekend...

Dealer said a switch was bad. That's all the detail I was provided. Replaced it under warranty.

So I ended up fixing mine. Here’s the thread detailing my fix.

Wow! Thanks for following up with that post. I'll bookmark it in case it happens again.

Had the same problem, dealership fixed it, said had to reprogram limit stops on control module on seat
That’s pretty much what I did with the screwdriver in the DIY guide. I couldn’t live with a flat seat for the 3 months it takes to get an appointment.
