Need to change my oil tomorrow, Have my OEM filter and need to get oil, Normally I use Valvoline SYN for some on my cars 10/30 and John Deere plus50 in my Ford 7.3TD 15/40 and tractor 10/30, Mobil 1 in 09 EVO 10/30 and 88 T bird 2.3 turbo 20/50.

I'm looking for a better oil or I may use the John Deere Plus50 as I buy it by the 5gallon jug.

So this is a loaded question. :grouphug:

Thanks

Rich

Mobil 1 is my choice.
I've been using it since 2001 on my two bimmers, Santa Fe and now on Genesis.
I'll be changing mine on Monday at D'Arcy Hyundai in Joliet.

Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 EP (Extended Protection) are both very good, and the price of a 5-quart jug at Wal-Mart is very reasonable. For the Genesis, I would use Mobil 1 5W-30 or 0W-30.

I have used Valvoline synpower for years in my Acura then in my Genesis and Denali. I use 5w30. I now have 152,000 miles on my Genesis 4.6 and never used any oil between oil changes every 5000 miles. Mobil 1 0-40 euro in my AMG. Walmart prices may be the best.

I have used the Ultra 5w-30 on my '12 R-Spec and believe it is the best oil made, period. Have also used Mobil-1 for 15+ years. The biggest problem with the Ultra is finding it.

Have the same problem finding the ultra, bought the platinum in 10w/30. Not trying to jack it up. All the plastics makes it hard in the front. Got ride of my ramps 20yrs ago may need new ones or lift for this car. UGH I will not let someone else do the oil changes. How do you all handle the bluelink reporting on oil changes?

Bought Pennzoil Ultra off of Amazon. 3 5-qt jugs for ~$85 shipped with subscribe and save. FYI if you don't want to use S&S you can cancel S&S after the first order ships.
Honestly any of the synthetic brands mentioned will be fine.
Unless you are driving highly highly modified/high hp cars or the mfgr requires a specific brand stick to the major brands.

I changed the oil Saturday not too bad jacked each side and pit 4x6 under each wheel and removed plastic cover. Drained oil and filter put cover back on more of a pain to get located and one screw started. Filled crank case with 10w30 oil. Let warm up and a noticeable change in how much loader the engine is running with hood closed then with factory fill. This was the first oil change. May go back to 5w20 but feel it is too thin for summertime with higher Temps and extended driving. Anyone else notice the increased sound?

Thanks Rich

How about compromise and use 5W-30? 10W-30 is just too thick for modern cars.

I know that people are going to start claiming that 10W-30 and 5W-30 are the same viscosity at normal operating temperature, but the in reality they are not the same due to the leeway that oil manufacturers have in viscosity ranges.

I would agree. Cold starts in almost any climate would create a lot of wear in most modern, moderate-mileage cars.

Cold starts using 10-30 that is.

I used Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30 on my V6 and intend to use it on my V8 as well. Previously, I used Mobil 1 regular full synth on my Elantra and Sonata and Castrol Syntec on my RX-8.

All are quality quasi-synth or full synthetic oils based on my armchair research.

I'm thinking about draining and put in 5w30. I can clean my drain pan and put in my winter car 01 xterra I use valvoline syntec 10w30 in it now. So I waste a few qts. But the Genesis will benefit from a really clean engine with only a few hundred mile change. LOL. Thanks for the help. Prior to the oil change I smelled a coolest leak hope not too alarming and just a hose clamp loose. It's going to the dealer tomorrow for sunshade replacement and I'll have them ck this now. I hate taking anything to the dealer. Never know what they are going damage or break. UGH.

+1 on this :)

Funny as this may sound.. Hang on to that 88 turbo T Bird. Did they put a intercooler on it like the SVO Mustang by then? Someday it could go across Mecum auction and draw some attention. Will not be any left, and it is a unique ride, especially another 15 years from now.. 20-50? Unless that is worn out could go with lighter synthetic oil? I had a 86 SVO. Loved it. I assume you have a 5 speed manual? Keep your old 7.3.. Out here many still going strong delivering trailers with 700-900k miles. Heard many legends of 7.3 and the Ford SD chassis going million miles delivering trailers.

👆👍👏🏻➕1⃣ and I Add that I use 5-20 in Ultra, and Mobil One Extended drain. In both 2012 5.0 and 2015.

On the 5.0, do you have to remove two panels, or just one?

Are they fastened with phillips screws?

I haven't seen much on the forum from people who have actually changed their own oil/filters on the 5.0. Maybe, Hyundai has just made it too hard - and possibly a little bit dangerous. But, I plan to keep on doing it.

Several people have posted their experiences with changing the on oil on the 2015 5.0 engine (with pics).

Thanks - I was one of the posters on that thread.

Several people on a forum for one of my previous cars noticed that their engine seemed louder with Mobil 1 than with other brands, even when using the same viscosity.
