If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Motor of America. has just made a offer to buy my 2010 4.6 back. with all of this said i was thinking about buying a Rspec i have found one in the price range i want. $ 39,990 but for those of you who has went from a 4.6 to a 5.0 was it worth the extra money?

the 5.0 that i have found is in NC. and also did your insurance go up any? i plan on calling progressive to find out.. any info will be welcome or if you know where a black genesis 5.0 is in the southeast let me know..

there are upgrades going from the 4.6 to 5.0, nothing crazy but a few...

side moldings, lit door plates, stiffer suspension, rspec floor mats (adds 10hp... race car).

doesnt the 5.0 over the 4.6 have DI... so thats a difference too.

I would say the insurance increases but not a deal breaker.

good luck

Duck, are you leasing or did you buy you car? I'm wondering if these offers are given to to both buyers and leasees?

As a point of view on the question of insurance costs on the R-Spec, we just got our six-month renewal on a two-car policy bundled with homeowners and a $1 million insurance umbrella from Travelers.

For those who are interested, we have good driving records, are over 55, etc., living in greater Twin Cities metro. We each drive around 20k per year and have $500,000 bodily injury, $500,000 liability, collision and comprehensive with $500 deductible, personal injury protection, uninsured motorist, $500,000 underinsured motorist liability, medical, towing, and full glass/0 deductible coverage, etc. etc.

Cars:

2012 Genesis R-Spec - six month premium: $261
2012 Volvo XC60 AWD with 300hp T6; six-month premium: $271.

I realize this will vary significantly from others' premiums for a lot if reasons. However, what's amazing is that the Volvo is more expensive to insure, and its safety features exceed the already good safety features of the Genny. The Volvo MSRP was about 51k, but still??

OBTW, I'm not soliciting critique on my policy from insurance pros here. :)

Your insurance company probably has insufficient statistics on the R-Spec to rate it a higher risk than any other Genesis V8. If you look at the Comprehensive portion of the premium, that should show how much is attributed to difference in MSRP between the Volvo and the R-Spec. The primary aspect of comprehensive is theft, and damage due to natural disaster, etc.

exbmwguy,
i guess SoCal is much more expensive than the twin cities.
i'm paying $2000/yr for genesis and audi Q5.
same coverage limits and umbrella, but with $1000 deductible.

Damn!

$90/month

$250 deductable

$0 deductable on glass - full glass coverage

OR

$125/month for both my Genesis and Sonata. Sonata has same coverage.

Not sure about your area nextcar, but for me a $250 deductable and $1,000 doesn't change the premium more then $10/month or so.

It's nice when an accident happens I'm only charged $100 of my $250 deductable also:)

$1,000 is the deductable of my house insurance!

You bet'ya. Higher accident rates (due to traffic), and much higher theft rates. Also, probably lots more uninsured motorists.

Nextcar my stats are very close to EXBMWGUY (almost exactly the same insurance but a "tad" younger) and I live in Las Vegas and for two vehicles ('06 Tundra and the 2012 Genesis) its about 1800 per year.

I hate you. $876 including coverage for a 2002 WRX that gets driven 1,000 miles a year and lesser coverage (300/100) with a record that will be clean upon my next renewal.

Hate: :(

What is even worse, I have had six verbal speed warnings in two years, two of them by the same state patrolman on the same stretch of road. All between 10 and 15 over.

My wife and many friends hate me too!
:)

Yes. Its very much worth it. I love driving it. My insurance went up $5. USAA.

Good luck!

On my 4.6 2009 , my insurance cost 450$/yr and i'm 31 years old, 0$ deductible and 2 millions responsability.

My insurance went DOWN when I traded in my 2010 4.6 for the 5.0 Non R-Spec. I have no idea how or why this makes sense to some actuarial science person, but it definitely went down.

Do you guys think 39,990 before tax is a good price for this car. or do you think i can find a better deal ?

Duck, just one question though. What happens if your R-Spec pulls to one side as well? My 2010 pulled and it didn't get resolved until I went to an independent alignment shop and got a 4 wheel laser alignment done (paid for out of my own pocket, of course). My 2012 pulls ever-so- slightly, and I will probably have the same thing done.

I will say that the Genesis is *very* sensitive to the crown on the road. I've been on some roads and felt it pulling one way and been on others and felt it pulling the other way.

there was other reason why Hyundai bought the car back also. i had a problem with the miles on the car.

Tires matter. Some tires are hard and give great gas mileage but are noisy and exhibit a significant amount of tire pull. Tires that are more sensitive to pull will be very sensitive to slight camber variances as well as road imperfections.

Read this thread for my experience with my new tires

That price is about $1,000 less than I paid 10 months ago. I'd say it's a good price, though you might find a bit better if the 2013's make their ways to lots and the 2012 inventory doesn't move.

On the other hand, if you already HAVE a Genesis... why not just wait until the redesign in a year or two? I probably would.

Maybe you can lease a 5.0 for 2 years...
