  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Permanently Disable Auto Start / Stop

I looked into the pinout for the GV80 for my neighbor and it is the same as the GV70. I think the G80 is likely the same pinout and would work with the GV70 ISG Auto-Disable device. Could you post a picture of the ISB switch panel?
ISB switch panel?
what is it
where is it

if I knew what and where it is, could take and post a picture

Sorry, ISG switch panel where the button is to disable ISG. It has the letter A with a circle/arrow around it. It's located on the dashboard, to the left of the steering wheel. I found a picture of it online and it looks identical to the GV80.

Has anyone found one of these modules (ISG Auto-Disable) that will work with a 2021 G80? I searched the web and could not find one.

I also read that another solution (other than one of those auto-disable modules, or wedging a piece of plastic in the button) would be to disconnect the wire from the battery that is used to report low voltage - effectively faking out the system to believe that the battery is low and therefore not activating auto stop. Anyone try this on a G80?

I too intensely dislike the auto stop feature, and don't always remember to press the button (to disable it) every time I start the car.
Contact rjsullix88 on ebay (for GV70 ISG Auto-Disabler). He/she responded with " I think it will work (on G80). If they send me a message I can offer a discount and free return shipping to test."

To add on top of that, you could find a black colored one (or paint it) to help make it more unnoticeable.
I got tired of forgetting to turn the auto stop off (pushing in button) every time I started the car. Last week I cut a piece of black plastic off from a Winn Dixie club card (about same thickness as a credit card). Took a black permanent marker and colored any "non black text" on the piece I cut. Also - cut it small enough so it barely sticks out after wedged under bottom of the button. Can barely see it! Have to look really hard to see it. And if you did not know it was there, most likely would not notice it.

Has worked like a charm. No downside I can think of. A FREE solution to turning the start/stop feature permanently off. Without having to alter anything, no wire splicing, no plugging in third party electronic device, etc.

Here is what it looks like:

Pretty good for a quick fix solution! I am surprised this works because often electric switches reset once powered off, which I would think require releasing the button and depressing it again.

That aside, I would always know its there and with such a luxury interior, I think it would bug the heck out of me having something jambed into my switch, even if not noticeable to others...but that is just me. I would still go for the easy plug and play solution identified by Tazman in another thread.

Don't know what the inside of a GV70 looks like, and if would be noticeable. But on my 2021 G80 it really is barely noticeable and YES - it does work. Without ever having to press the switch in again.

I continue to be amused at this "problem".

When I start my GV70 there are a few things I always do and one of them is move my left hand all of a few inches and turn that feature off.

Let's see... jamming a piece of plastic in there or moving my hand a few inches to turn it off... hmmm... I'll have to think about that a while.

Why go thru all that hassle?? Take a piece of anything and disable it manually..

Just curious, what is it about start/stop do you not like? This seems to be a feature that many feel very strongly about.
My first car that had it was a 2012 BMW X3. The start/stop was very noticeable and there was a distinct lag accelerating from a stop. I did find that very annoying.
I have an 2018 Audi Q5, and the start/stop is hardly noticeable.
Same with the GV70. Maybe I've just gotten used to it?
Maybe he like I do hate, yes hate the function

I did this same thing on my GV70, and it works perfectly. It's way better and cheaper than buying a wiring harness product, pulling off the panel of buttons, etc.

1 month update (since I jammed the switch with piece of plastic): still works like a charm, no burnt out switch, no blown fuse, no problem at all. I have now almost forgotten about the not smooth, disruptive feature that used to aggravate the sh.....t out of me when I forgot to turn it off.

Let's see... jamming a piece of plastic in there or having to remember to press a switch every time I started my car. Not much to think about!

The folks at Autostop Eliminator - Disable The Auto Start Stop Feature have solutions for many vehicles, just not the GV70 yet. I've had a dialog with one of the owners and they've told me that if I can bring my vehicle in to their shop they can prepare a suitable fix - they need a vehicle to make a test bed from so they can mass-produce it and get it on their store. I just need to find a weekend to get my vehicle into West Virginia for the day - it's on the spring time calendar.

My problem with this is that I got stuck a few times. My car stopped dead in some dangerous places, e.I., traffic light. I was helpless to move it until waiting for it “to cool off” when I was able to manually start it again.

Anyone try this? If the GV70 is same system this should work?85E46969-4FCE-4F82-9D94-91832659C054.webp

Unpopular opinion on this thread buuuut … this was the first car I’ve owned that has the auto stop feature and I hated it at first. Tbh I still don’t love it but the auto stop timer you can scroll to on the dash made a compelling argument. Granted I live in LA, but after owning the car for ~14 months, the auto stop has kept my car from idling (and burning $$$ gas) for a whopping 32 hours(!) in total. I didn’t believe it at first and started to audit the timer, but was surprised to realize that those traffic lights really add up. I do wish there was better programming for the rocky start that occurs when you have both auto stop and auto hold engaged.

Random PS: I also wish this forum had a filer to only view posts with photos … I love seeing everyone else’s GV70 build/mods!

You'd burn a lot of gas in 32 hours. I've seen figures up to 1/2 gallon per hour so you've possibly saves 16 gallons, or over $50.

I've not driven a car with it yet so can't say what I'd do. There are some long lights here so I can see a savings. Maybe my next car.

Same basic pictures as the Ali Express listing two posts above yours. Is this actually active on Amazon? I can't find it by searching but maybe it's because I'm in Canada.

Yes, pm me and I’ll find the link and send it to you. I did see the above post that Aliexpress but had problems and time delays returning items to them. My pov fast and easy returns via Amazon.Richard
