  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Petition / Vote for Navigation System

B

If someone could figure out a way to connect a Garmin to the USB port and have it display on the NAV screen, and also have it interface with the "wheel", I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

The Genny NAV is OK, but fickle. I drive the same route every day, yet some days it will route me one way, then the next day it will route me another way...and one route is 7 minutes longer than the other.

B by far. I already have two Garmins and are very VERY happy with them. I'd LOVE to see similar features and controls for the Genny.

Definitely B. I have a Garmin system in my new Durango and it's light years ahead of the lousy Hyundai system. Even a $130 Garmin portable is vastly superior to my Genesis' system.

I can't understand why the order of entry in the system is: state, street, then city. Depending on how some city, state, county employee entered the data, I.e.; north main st, N main street, NO Main st, etc. It takes numerous attempts. I had an address of county road 199 and I finally gave up. I later learned that the particular section of the county used a dash between Cr and the number. Example CR-199 the adjacent section of the county used Co rd 199. There are enough combinations that render the thing useless for me in my section of the country. Usually all I need to do is get to the small town then I could find the street.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III phone (two weeks now) and tried it this past weekend driving to Tucson and back home to Sierra Vista (AZ)...using the navigation with satellite image and street view. Awesome. I have a good mounting device for it, and can either mount it to the windshield, like a radar detector or in a cup holder device in the center console.

I am exploring other apps for the smarthphone, and found one called "iOnRoad Augmented Driving".....supposedly it is a driving safety app that warns you of collisions. It improves driving in real time using the power of advanced smarpthones. The app uses the smartphone's native camera, GPS and sensors to detect vehicles in front of the host vehicle, alerting drivers when they are in danger...." I know the Genny has that capability as well, to some extent with the adaptive cruise control and lane wandering thing, so I figured I would just download the app and test it out on my S III....since it has a very good camera. Might prove to be interesting.
Not built in but this is what I'm now considering, just have to find a logical way to mount it:

Nexus 7 Tablet ($199 8GB/$249 16GB),

http://www.google.com/nexus/#/7

Beyond being a tablet it has Google Maps with Navigation (GPS), a 7" screen, turn by turn directions. If you don't like Google navigation both TomTom and Garmin have announced an Android version of their navigation software.

It would be nice to figure out where the voice volume override of the built in system is at and plug this in through that.....any of your Tech savvy people out there get to work on a mount and this capability..ok,pls,thx !! lol. :)

iOnRoad also has a line departure warning feature built-in and all this for just a few dollars!

B, All the way. Been using Garmin GPS for years, The Hyundai Nav System is a joke in my opinion. We don't even bother using it.

Absolutely (B.) Garmin.

And I agree with the discussion about having to select a state before entering a new street (I live in Kansas, about 3 miles from Missouri and cross between the two regularly - hard to remember which state is currently set and a pain to keep switching between the two).

Another "problem" is that the system won't allow entry of JUST a city without an address. Sometimes on a trip, I just want to get close/at city center, particularly for a small town, and don't know a specific address. The GPS on my '10 Toyota would allow this.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

The smartest thing car makers can do is come up with an interface which links the display (and thus the underlying functionality) of the smart phone which may be sitting in your pocket or purse with a large format touch screen, i.e., you get into your car and - voila - the touch screen automatically becomes an extension of your smart phone (or your iPad). Now I'd pay for that!!

You said it.

I could've swore Jaguar was going with a BlackBerry integration system a year ago... but since there's talks of RIM going under, it doesn't surprise me to see them jump over to the winning camp.

How about Windows 8 integration? Eh? EH???

I think Win8 on a tablet sized screen like the one that's suppose to be in the 2013 Genny would be great, it's highly functional in a mobile platform....so long as I don't get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) when I start my car lol. I do like that they are putting a 64GB SSD with user access and it seems like the Navi is taking a step in the right direction.

I'm not suggesting "plopping" the ipad / surface tablet / iphone / Android / etc into the dash (though I've seen them integrated INTO the back of the front seats as a multimedia solution for rear passenger - SUPER COOL).

As was mentioned before, just pass all the functionality to the main LCD screen. When I say that, I mean phone, voice-to-text, music streaming and navigation functionality.

It's really quite sad, since their products are actually REALLY GOOD. Interesting thing is, just today, I ordered my biannual BlackBerry upgrade. Going from my current Bold 9650 to their pretty much top-of-the-line 9930.

What a sweet phone... I'm especially impressed with the touchscreen functionality and the amazing O/S speed. What two years will do to technology... Wonder if the new phone will last the two years before I'm eligible for another upgrade LOL

My guess is no. Bet you my company starts letting us use our own personal phones (with some company-installed security features) instead of handing out BB's that will no longer be supported...

But I digress. The more phones that are supported by automakers for these features... THE BETTER.
