  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I, like many here, have the (well documented) drive train flutter in my 2015 3.8L AWD. No vibration, only audible and lasts no more than a few minutes. Since this car is soooo quiet, it's just annoying enough for me to consider fixing it. (this car has no warranty)

General consensus here is to replace the front driveshaft, but some have mentioned the problem came back. One owner claimed it was fixed by replacing the rear driveshaft (bad middle bearing?). That one doesn't make sense since the sound (at least on my car) isn't coming from anywhere near the rear driveshaft. On mine, it's coming from below the cup holders, pretty much where the front driveshaft rear u-joint is located.

So, before I start by replacing the front driveshaft, I'm curious how many have had the issue, mileage when it started, AWD or RWD, what was replaced/repaired (if it wasn't the driveshaft), how many miles since the repair and has it remained fixed?

Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never noticed such a noise.

Also, I never drive the car without the news or music playing on the stereo.

Nor I. I haven't noticed this at all.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Haven't noticed this myself, or not yet at least.

How about responding only if you've dealt with this issue. Please?

Title states this is a "poll" themed thread yes? So I imagine you will get yay AND nay responses like you are seeing.

I hear mine, but ignore it as it generally goes away once the car is warmed up. I do keep an eye(ear?) on it to notice if it increasing or not. I only have 32k kilometers on the vehicle too...

is this a V6 issue?

In fact, the Canadian model of the 5.0 V8 is all wheel drive.

Back in 2015 & 2016? Didn't know that. I wonder why they held back on the release of it in the U.S. until was it 2018?

Apparently Hyundai made the decision for ALL Genesis sedans be sold with AWD in Canada. I was so thrilled at the chance to have a 5.0 Gen II with AWD that I traded in my 2012 5.0 R-Spec.
No flutter noise, so can't help you there...

My '16 3.8 2wd had it, at 23000 miles, classic symptoms as most described here.
Dealer took a quick listen, said leave it with us please.
Called next afternoon to say factory authorized a new driveshaft.
Noise gone, hasn't returned in 15000 miles.
Tech told me factory asked him to shim the center bearing 1/4"; he said that eliminated the noise.
I'm pleased they didn't tell him to just leave the shims in there.
(Now that I think about it: I don't know for sure if that's what they did!)

I screwed up. (I'll blame it on my meds)

I spent the last hour reading the entire previous 'Flutter' thread (which I hadn't done) and it turns out all had the rear driveshaft replaced, not the front.
That's bizarre because noise in my car is coming from nowhere near the rear shaft, especially the center bearing. At least four owners did mention the vibration returned after replacement.

Not wanting to spend nearly $1,000 for the shaft, I will take a shot at replacing the front rubber coupler. Found the SGF OEM part for $88. Most likely it will be a bit tougher to ID the bearing, if available.

Yea...5.0 here and have that issue. Do not waste money on a shaft, a lot of people have reported it comes back.

Briefly had a 2015 5.0 Ultimate RWD with this issue. Would be very interested to learn if the guibo (rubber coupler) or center bearing is the problem. Agree the driveshaft itself doesn’t seem to be the problem or the fix.

I had the flutter noise when I bought the car used at 45k miles. Dealer replaced the driveshaft and the noise has been gone for about 5k miles so far.
I also suffer from a vibration at the same speed the noise was occurring at and the dealer is trying to figure that out now.
2015 AWD

2015 Sedan 3.8: I have the same flutter / vibration under the center console at 30mph. It does lessen or go away once the car is warm. Super annoying. Dealer wants to replace drive shaft for $2k. Ridiculous! Only $60k miles.

I only notice the flutter on rare cold days in FL and then for only about 5 minutes. I'd try to get it fixed if there were an obvious slam dunk solution, but it really isn't much of an issue in FL.
