  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Where does everyone mount/store their phone in their car? I'm looking for a way to mount my phone where I can charge it. Wondering if I can get a cord out of the storage compartment while still having that door closed.

What does everyone else do? Right now my phone sits in small slot in front of the center arm rest storage.

Welcome!

There are SEVERAL threads discussing this issue so do a search on the forum.

FWIW you can plug the USB charger into the USB port inside that little covered door area that has the USB port and fit your phone in there and leave it. If you're just using your phone as a phone - not checking for texts, not using Waze or Google maps, etc. - you can close the door over it and it's hidden, charging and connected by Bluetooth.

If you want ACCESS to the phone you can leave it resting on top of the closed area while plugged in, you can put it in a cupholder, you can somehow attach it to the dashboard via *shock* velcro or a nonslip pad, you can get a holder that clips on an air vent - but then it's in the way of the vent and its cold/hot air unless you close that vent, or there are holders that fit INTO the cup holders and hold the phone but you lose a cup holder.

That's kind of a summary but you need to search the forums for details and links.

Unfortunately, bottom line, ain't no perfect one size fits all solution - at least until Apple Car Play and Android Auto are available updates on our systems.

Me, I've been wondering if the problem Hyundai is having with allowing these updates might not be how to make our HUDs work with them for those of us who have them.

I place my cell phone in the slot directly in front of the center console. Even when plugged in to recharge, the phone is left there and the cord is long enough to reach the 12v outlet.

Same here though most of the time, my phone is in my belt holster since I have Android and use Bluetooth for everything I "need" to do with my phone. I only put it in that little slot if I need to charge or I'm streaming something other than my music app (which starts automatically when I select Bluetooth media and I can control with the steering wheel buttons without taking the phone out).

I kept thinking about this and did more research. I really like (and ordered) the iOttie iTap Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount which uses strong (rare earth) magnets to attach your phone - possibly in a case, possibly not - to a good holder on the air vents. Not a novel idea but the best execution I've seen.

I belong to [not run or own, just belong to] a site that puts together mass buys or drops of various items so that you can get them more cheaply. Again, I did the research and this drop is available for a few days more - joining massdrop is free - and it is ABSOLUTELY the cheapest price out there for the mount including free shipping and tax only in two states (one of them mine unfortunately).

Decide you want one and feel like giving me credit for adding a person join via this link -

- and I get credit. Feel perfectly free to ignore it and join on your own too. I just like our community and don't often feel I can give as much as I get from you guys. :grouphug:

be wary of vent clip mounts. I spoke to tech at Samsung. I have the S4. He told me the cold or hot air blowing directly on the back of the cell phone constantly (as in longewr trips) could damage the battery.

Got mine from amazon. Good grip and qi wireless phone charger . One hand easy to remove.

That is exactly what I have been looking for! Difficult car to mount a phone in a good place. What model of ProClip is it? I see all kinds of them.
Thanks,
Cuervoman

Pro Fit International Ultimount V2 with a Scosche magnetic mount. I also hardwired a USB C cord for my Pixel. Absolutely love it. I've always used ProClipUsa but they're quite expensive and since they're car and phone-specific it can get quite spendy if you go through cars & phones as much as I do (plus, ProClip doesn't have a mount for the Genesis that puts the phone up at eye-level in the center of the dash like I prefer).

I believe the Proclip is the one I want to use. Is the holder the one that utilizes the Belkin connector?
Thanks
Mike

I use a magnetic mount that goes into my unused CD player slot. Very stable and has been working great since I bought my car new in Sept '16. I have a thin USB cable to charge that I coil up and shut the door on and only 8-10" of slack comes out to connect to my Galaxy S7 Edge (the magnet mount has plenty of force to hold even my heavy phone). I'll try and add a pic later.

Edit: Here's an Amazon link to the exact one that I use, the "WizGear Universal CD Slot Magnetic Car Mount": http://a.co/38e2jfz

Here's a pic of it installed
