  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Phone Voice Command: Difficulty Recognizing Contact Information

Mine (2010 w/Tech) is pretty ridiculous. My 3rd party Motorola and my Razr phone are waaay better at detecting what I say than my Genny. *sigh* Plus, in the 2010 you cannot upload your phone book. Must manually enter each and every one you want to have access to with the Tech system. Major suck on that!

Yes, lots of issue around voice recognition in my 2 month old 2013 3.8 tech.

After a few weeks/months of experimenting, I found that speaking artificially s l o w helps somewhat, but doesn't resolve it.

I took mine in last week and Hyundai service will replace the microphone (under warranty), just to see if that helps. But they did imply they see a lot of issues in the voice recognition arena, and its not always fixable. But they said they're willing to try a few options, starting with a new mic.

I recently purchased a 2012 Genesis V6 Sedan. While many of the features are great, the voice command function for retrieving names from my cell phones contacts -- all of which uploaded fine into the bluetooth/nav head unit -- is very sketchy.

Whatever the software is that Hyundai has loaded into this system, it seems to suffer major problems with fundamental name recognition. Regardless of how clearly I try to pronounce a name, it usually misses it by a mile.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with the Phone Voice Command function?

Yes-same-I give up. Rarely connects with proper name. Then I have people calling me back who I did not intend to call wanting to know why I called them.

maybe we need to have a Korean accent ?

unless they used a retard to sample the speech recognition ?

I rather have a messed up speech recognition in the car then some of the crap I put of with in the bmw.

ppp

I agree whilst the Voice Commands are not intuitive, I have found that following the "prompts works well...Most mistakes are my fault, for not as I said previously following the "prompts..
Deleting your phone from the system and clearing BT from your phone, then a ReBoot on the phone & an ignition Off/On then a Pair..Usually cures most common ills..

My voice recognition works great. I say call "wife" and it does. I use several commands and it works every time. Never had trouble.

I'm in the difficult to use Camp. VR has problems with some names. I just change to nickname like "Wife" cuz it doesn't get her name, Sarah and I have tried slow, fast, phonic, etc nothing works...kind of a pain

Guess that works unless you have more than one. So for those not married it would be "girlfriend one", "girlfriend two", "girlfriend three" etc. :D

Isn't that just lovely? My 2012 Genesis 4.6 radio head went dead last week until I turned it back on a couple hours later. Now I documented with my video camera me saying "Dial by number" and the chick saying dial from phone book,....there are no entries in the phone book." I'm looking the the hard reset that the service rep says is a button you use a pen in to reset it, but he doesn't know where. I asked if he could ask someone that works on them and he told me no one person works on them and it's a rare problem. He told me to try to find the place to insert the pen tip to reset it. The radio head with the lexicon name on it, in a Hyundai is really embarrassing when you have guests in the car and you go to dial someone and it has no clue what your asking and NO, slowing down, speaking clearer, louder or standing on my head makes it work any better.

I just thought my 2010 4.6 w/tech package was bad until my dealership did some sort of "firmware" update on a part they didn't tell me what!!!

Now my damn radio/phone/or nav system does not understand anything I tell it. Like others with this issue, doesn't matter how I say it, it just doesn't want to work!!!! I'm out of warranty on this system (which I think is great in many ways) but as stated, when you've got other folks in the car and your car doesn't know what you're telling it, it's a BIG embarrassment.

I think I'll drop by the dealership one day this week and see if they have any clues or advice........ not expecting much tho.

My 2013 isn't bad. You do have to be very specific. "go home" works. "drive home" and "Directions home" don't. Then again directions never said those commands would work. Siri it isn't but it is good enough to understand calling my girlfriend.

No real issues here, just found I need to speak clear and slow"...
I watched the YouTube instruction videos, Nav/Cruise/Radio/Phone:-
all working ok. the speed of the unit is far superior to previous VW RNS 510..

I believe they changed the head unit of the nav system in 2013. My 2012 is a total disaster for VC. 95 % of the time I say dial by number and the woman replies "dial by phonebook", there are no numbers there. I reset to factory default the system but no cold boot as I couldn't find the reset button for that. I thought my Lexus was bad and it was, but this is just plain sad...

Agreed!!! Mine used to not be so "bad" (never was good) until they did some sort of firmware update. One thing I noticed since the update was my shift patterns are way improved. The tranny downshifts much better, shifts faster between gears and just has a better overall response.
But that damn voice command is absurd. Don't know if the two are connected in some crazy fashion, but, the shifting improvement and the decline in voice recognition came about at the same time.
