  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings!

I was originally interested in the Genesis when the 2009 models were being introduced. I even attended a promotional event where I got to drive a 2009 V8 and got this cool souvenir:

At the time a sedan didn't really make sense for our family. We were stuck on minivans and SUV's. Also, I didn't want to spend the money they were asking and wanted to see how it would go with the Genesis. So I've kept tabs and 6 years have passed and decided now was the time to drive a 'car' again after about 20 years aforementioned SUV's and MVs.

After watching Craigslist, Autotrader, and Cars for a couple of months I saw what appeared to be a good deal at the cargurus site. I watched the price go down over several weeks. Eventually that ad disappeared but the listing still showed at the dealer site and continued to drop (Hardin (Orange County, CA)) so I made some calls and got to a deal. This was my first purchase from a dealership since '98 having learned the benefits of private party sales but this CPO at a dealer came in at about the same price as private party so I decided to give it a shot. Flew to CA to pick it up and drove it home. Loved the adaptive cruise, sound system/info system, general comfort and so far happy with it.

Here's a couple of pics taken while installing the wings emblems yesterday:

I used info from this forum to help with deciding the model and understanding what was good about these vehicles. Thanks to all who post!

Power Window Glitch

One problem I've already experienced is with the power window controls on the driver door panel. I've got maybe 400 miles driving and twice I've gotten into scenarios where the windows stopped responding to the four switches. The first time I was completely stumped. The second time it seemed that when I opened and closed the door that the issue went away. I'm wondering if something loose or going bad inside the door.

Anyone else seen an issue like this? I've searched and it didn't seem to come up.

I actually looked at that car while I was in Anaheim to do the Disneyland Half Marathon in September.

At that time it was like 28K, I kept checking and saw it get down to 24.4K, I hope you got it even lower.

I was seriously considering it until I found mine, good luck with your new car.

I found this pic the other day from the Hyundai website, it showed the car with the black grille instead of the grey grille

Haha, I knew somebody other than me must be watching it. When it hit $23989 I decided I'd go for it. They had another 2013 R-Spec (silver) that was similar miles and dropping in price the same as mine and when it disappeared I decided it was put up or shut up time for the white one.

I was wondering if the Calif folks might be a bit shy of the V8 and that's why it was hanging around. It was a demo car for the first 5K miles so that may have scared some off. The Hardin people were quite professional and nice to deal with.

I looked at what you've done with yours. It looks cool. I feel like mine is missing a rear spoiler but probably wouldn't make that change. Other than the wing emblems everywhere I'll be getting a decent window tint and then my hope is that things will go well for the next 2-3 years so that I can pickup a low mileage 2015 or 2016 V8 around then (preferably in Ibiza Blue!) Take care Charles!

I really like the look of the car with the rear spoiler, some people don't, but i think it really adds to the car.

Here is yours with the black roof & side mirrors, and chrome upper grille garnish.

Please don't...

LOL

Good pick-up, OP. CPO is the way to go with these things.

Perhaps mods like that work well on a Corolla. Please don't torture a Genesis.

I think we all have our own opinions on what looks good on the Genesis. Clearly, we're all passionate about the car. The original poster will want to make the car his own, but showing how different options might look can only help. Mathwiz also posted valuable pricing information, which provided a great benchmark for negotiating the price of my own Genny.

Thank you Rysher8, we all have our own tastes, and entitled to their own opinion. I don't think my Genesis is tortured. I really like the panoramic roof look, especially on white or silver cars.

If you are a "purist" and want to look like everyone else and think things should not be changed, you are entitled to your opinion, of course you should have the H logo on the back of the car and embrace you Hyundai-ness.

And I apologize to sgunner for the hijack of his thread.

Yikes. I post an opinion and then get accused of being a Purist because, you know, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Except anyone else.

If only MathWiz was a ReadingWiz, he would have read my signature.

Perhaps you should keep working on Goldbach's conjecture or the Riemann hypothesis.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's not bicker and argue about who killed who!

Now, taking back my thread, yesterday I suddenly had no audio on XM. Every other media source had sound. Did some research, pulled and replaced a 15 amp fuse, and XM was back up.

Taking the car for service tomorrow. Should I be worried about glitchy electronics? The car is at 35900 miles.

Also, do I get a free loaner car because I have a Genesis (it's a Hyundai dealership that will service it) or am I delusional?

I only get loaners if the dealer is super-slow on the workload for the day.

I have some head unit glitches, but nothing like what you're seeing. Usually a random reboot after initial startup, and even that is infrequent. YMMV as you have the HDD equipped '13.

Good news. The dealership confirmed that there was an issue with the power window switch assembly (found an error code related to it) and replaced it within the 36K warranty. I'm at 35925 now so the grace period will be over within the next couple of days. I have the 5 yr/60K warranty as part of CPO but it doesn't cover a lot of electronics.

They did not find any errors with the head unit or XM and simply pulled the fuse to reset it which I had already done. It's working for now.
