  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

plasti dipped the emblem, G70, 2.0T, and plate frame today.
I like how it came out for the most part.
But for the wing logo, I taped the middle part before doing it bc I didn't want to dip that part.
Is there a better way I can try for the front wing?

Looks pretty good. Do you also have the dark 5 spoke wheels?

With plasti-dip you can also just spray the entire emblem, then sort of peel off the areas you don't want sprayed with a toothpick. It doesn't always work though, as it depends on the texture and edges of whatever you're spraying.

I'm toying with the idea of spraying my emblems with translucent smoke Plasti dip to match the dark chrome accents, then topping it off with some glossifier. Hopefully that will make it match the rest of the accents.

Like you, I would tape off the areas I don't want covered - namely the middle section, and the inner sections of the wings.

With extra time on my hands, I got some Plastidip to make the car a little more sporty. AKA, remove a bit of the chrome.. I also have the regular Chrome, so I need to be strategic with where I apply the black. I was thinking of starting with the chrome strip under the side mirrors. Wonder if I can take those off and paint them?

Thoughts? Recommendations?

If you're using plasti-dip, I wouldn't remove anything to spray it. I'd just mask for overspray, then go for it. You want to still be able to peel it off, especially the first time while you're just testing out the looks.

That said, I think that chrome strip is an excellent place to start so you can see if you like it.

When applying it, you actually want it to be relatively thick. That is, SEVERAL light coats, or less, but moderate, coats. You want to spray it on thick enough so that it flows and levels well, but not too thick to where you start having drips. The application is different than traditional paint. If you do the light, but several, coat method, it won't be nearly as smooth, and will have a coarse texture.

Ah, yes the reason I want to remove the strips in because it's still a bit cold here. In my garage, I would say 10C/50F.. If I could apply it at that temp, I would. I can wait too but would like to use my free time!

I watched several videos from Dipyourcar.com and yeah, a very light first "tac" coat and then 5-7 thicker coats. The stuff looks pretty good and seems really durable if applied correctly. It sounds like you have experience. How do you like the product? Does it look professional?

My second to last Subaru I dipped myself. Did one panel at a time. It's pretty dang durable, lasted for 2.5 years before I sold the car. One thing to note, don't spill gasoline on it! It WILL ruin it, even more so if it hasn't cured yet. Haha.

DYC is an awesome resource, very helpful and worthwhile to not only do your research there, but also to get supplies!
