  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone experienced random peel off from plasti dip ? I plasti dip my rims but im noticing its peeling off slightly, what causes that ?

Not correctly prepped?

Did you thoroughly clean the wheels with rubbing alcohol first? I've tried Plastidip and just can't fall in love with the stuff, my experience is that this product just doesn't hold up, especially on wheels.

Vinyl wrap maybe the way to go, you could get a quote a your local wrap shop and get an idea of price.

I didnt rub alcohol first . I did plasti dip because it was inexpensive, there was a guy he quoted me $650 to powder coat my rims but just too much money for my like. Do you have a photo of your rims vinyl wrapped ?

I don't have any wheels wrapped, but I've done other areas with wrap to de-chrome parts of cars etc. There are plenty of wheel wrapping vids on YouTube, but wheel vinyl wouldn't be for a beginner level.

It's a temporary product, cheap consumer one at that. Hardly anyone does enough prep. You need to have surface SO CLEAN for it to last over time. Even a finger print on the surface after it is cleaned and then coated without being removed will eventually cause lifting. 50% Alcohol / Water work on the cheap for final dust free wipe but many other products that are better such as Prep-Solv and rubber gloves are a MUST. Finger/Skin oil is the worst.

Your coat is too thin in that area. I had one spot on one of my wheels that did the same thing. After some trial and error, I got better at applying the coats evenly. You can easily fix that spot.

The other thing is how far away was the nozzle when applying the coat? It needs to be applied very thick. Not like paint. You "wet" it out. Like soak it each coat. Basically a can of Plastidip per wheel.

My wheels have held up perfect after I fixed that one thin area.
