Plastic covering radar

I purchased a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate over the weekend with 1700 miles as a demo, and the dealer did not remove the clear plastic covering the radar sensor on the front grill. They encouraged me to leave it on since (in their opinion) it doesn't come off cleanly. It will leave gunk behind and looks worse than leaving on.

Is that good advice and not worth the risk, or BS? Seems odd leaving clear plastic which looks a little wrinkled already. If they are unwilling to remove, any suggested products to do it myself?

It's funny you mentioned this as I just noticed my car has adhesive or other residue on the radar sensor. It is particularly noticeable from certain angles. I think the cover might be hard to remove cleanly and/or the prep at my dealer was poor...probably both. I'm going to try to remove it with goo gone or similar and see how it goes.

If they leave it on maybe try to peel it off when temps are high and slowly to capture all the adhesive.

I call it BS.......they told the same thing.

I used "simple green' to remove that film in less than 4 min.

Thanks for the tip. Did you slowly peel it off and then use Simple Green to wipe off remaining adhesive?

I don't have it on mine. Dealer removed it and no residue left behind.

I mean, the plastic cover was already pilled off, I just had to remove any leftovers of residue/glue.

They said better not to touch that as it wasn't easy to remove and they didn't want to damage/scratch/scuff the plate *facepalm*

The plastic cover was already off mine, too, but a mess of sticky, bad looking stuff was left behind. I used naphtha and Simple Green to clean mine off and then waxed and polished it.

I had this on mine when i picked up my car. It was caked on to the sensor. There was no way to remove it without seriously damaging it. I had it replaced by the dealer. They had to order the part and it took about 1 week to come in. My car had 1200 miles on it when I got it so it had been exposed to long to the elements and would not come off using the normal products.
