  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Plastic push in rivet HELP!!

So, these clips must be removed to replace the engine filter?

The G2 V6 on the other hand, has more room (lots more room) between the engine and the radiator. Getting to the oil filter isn't too difficult. Search for 3.6L engine oil change with pics. I suction the oil out from top and change the filter.

After removing that idiotic bottom fairing once with its 30-some flimsy plastic fasteners, I cut access ports and installed aluminum cover plates beneath the drain plug and filter. Now I remove only 6 screws to change oil. The cost of my first oil change, even at an independent garage, was expensive due to labor required to remove that stupid fairing and reinstall it. The entire design is much more complicated than my '09 Genesis (that had an access port for the drain and top-mounted filter) and appears to be a built-in income generator for Hyundai dealerships.

My oil changes aren't really that expensive at the dealer all things considered. $60 for Synthetic oil, and $60 for the 1/2 hour labour. $120 taxes in. If I did it myself it would still be $60 or more in synthetic oil, and I'd have to play around with ramps, and jacks and all that fun stuff since I don't have access to a lift.

Seems fair to me.

EDIT: I feel I should clarify this is in CAD Currency, and in Canada where oil is generally more expensive anyway for whatever reason.

Having lived in Tokyo for four years, an oil change was cheaper there, so obviously everything is relative. However, not many would pay $120 for an oil change here in Western PA especially when it includes a $60 labor charge.

I am also in Canada so we are talking apples to apples. Are you sure they are using synthetic? This is not what they normally use and therefor you must specify it specifically. That being said, I asked if they would extend the oil change interval IF I went to synthetic but the answer was no. cost me $120 for my first oil change with was regular oil however the V8 does take 9L. That was the last time they saw my car for regular maintenance. I now do my own at 10,000km intervals, probably could go 12,000 but 10,000 is a nice round figure. :boobs: Filter cost around $10 and oil is about $55 (always buy it on sale) for 10L plus I get the satisfaction of looking things over and putting back ALL the pushpins of which the dealer forgot 3 the first time around.

Yep, I specifically ask for 5w-30 Full Syn. and it is wrote into my service reports. My $120 is taxes in, all inclusive. I thought it wasn't too bad.

To put it into perspective, my girlfriend has hers done at the dealer (we don't live together yet and she doesn't want me to do it for the sake of her warranty), and she drives a Honda Fit. Her oil change costs the same as mine, and it's less oil, and I haven't looked at her full service reports yet, but I'm almost certain they aren't using full syn. in that little car.

But you're in the USA, where the USD is stronger than the CAD and the price of oil and gas is cheaper. So obviously not. I wouldn't pay that either in the US. Hahaha.

I do the V8 oil/filter change myself and I would charge a bunch in any country's money If I were doing it for money. It's quite labor intensive and the V8 takes 8.5 quarts of oil.
The labor can be reduced somewhat if you use the "Mercedes Method" and suction the oil out with a Mity-Vac - or the equivalent.

Are they allowing you increased service intervals because of the synthetic or are you still going in at 6,000km? Normally with synthetic you should be allowed to go 12,000km between changes. I do 10,000 for piece of mind.

I still go in every 6k km. I haven't really inquired about service intervals, but I like to change my oil frequently anyway. If I were doing it myself I'd probably be doing it every 5k - 7k km, even on synthetic. Some may call it fanatical, but I like to make sure my motor has the best possible lubrication it can get, so I usually go above and beyond. I also live in an area where we get high winds and dust in the summers, and high salt content during winters (90% salt mix on our roads), so I'm in the "harsh climate zone" section of the manual. Hahaha.
