  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Playing CDs in a 2023 G70

You rip the CDS to MP3s (or other format), put those on a USB drive, and plug that into the USB port in the car.

And for better sound fidelity, rip them to FLAC or WAV files and either play them from your phone or use the USB drive. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. That way you won't lose any of the CD's quality.

You could install a CD player but that's a whole other conversation.

Most of my older CDs have tracks that are recognized by PCs as native WAV files, so I basically just copy the tracks directly from a CD-ROM drive into HDD or USB drive. These days, they go straight into my phone. Some later ones have copyright protection that prevent you from direct copying, so you'll have to rip them, preferably in a lossless format, as mentioned.

Speaking of CD players, my wife just found a nice compact portable one over the Holidays while rummaging through some old storage boxes. We thought about keeping it, or even donating to Goodwill, but we just decided it's basically as obsolete as a cassette tape player at this point and rather pointless. In the trash bin it went.

Stop by the Best Buy car audio section, or any local car audio shop. I sense that you need local advice if you prefer to continue to play actual CDs in your car.

I have a number of albums on a portable HD that I think are in .WAV format. So you’re saying if I copy those files over to a USB stick, the front USB port will read those and play OK on our system? I’ve played from my IPhone before and from a IPod before when plugged into the front port, but did not realize our system would read files direct from a USB stick before?

Not only that, your portable hard drive may work as is.

With my previous cars, I used to do just that with WAV files stored on USB thumb drives. These days, it's far more convenient to store them on my phone, which is always connected every time I get in the car. I have no reason to think G70 wouldn't let you play WAV files on USB drive.

Will give it a try, but there are a lot of other files on that portable drive so if my G70 can search out and find only .WAV files located in that specific file folder, that would be really cool, but I’m not holding my breath It can figure that out on its on.

I just tried it with an USB stick and CD WAV files played just fine. I had 4 CD's copied over into their separate folders, and the USB music player read those as separate albums. Pretty much the same as other cars I've tried.
