  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Playing DVD while not in Park

If you figure this out and everything else works as it should when activated, I will send you $50, seriously. However it must be as simple as a few wires to add or solder which I am quite handy at.

Maybe you can help with this. I hate the fact you have to push the DIS knob to get erase the warning screen every time you fire up the engine. A simple logic control with a time delay of maybe 5 seconds when you fire up the engine which then simply sends a momentary ground signal which would mimic the manual push. Once located, then we need to find where to solder the ground wire.

^^ That is an interesting concept. However, one must make sure that the grounding of that wouldn't permanently ground the DIS button...which (knowing Hyundai) is a very real possibility :)

Here you go:

This was posted by someone on these forums a long time ago. Be forewarned, this is written in "Chinglish" so it might be a tad confusing to some.

I did on mine but it kills some function when its on it.
on number 11 or 12pin back of you're dvd player its red wire. You need to put a switch.
When ur on parking with ur engine running turn on the switch.
now ur volume button on the handle should not work.
put it in to drive u should still have dvd running on the screen.
dvd player thinks ur still on parking. Bad part is ur volume on handle dose not work and also ur use Music u can't. Change tracks. Soon as u turn it off it come back to normal.
there is 2 red wire its one nwar middle. Good luck

I plan on doing this to my gen soon

I got this

I did this on mine but it kills some functions when its in use.
On the number 11 or 12 pin in the back of your dvd player there is a red wire. You need to put a switch on this wire.
When you're in park with the engine running turn on the switch.
Now your volume button on the steering wheel (?) should not work.
Next, put it into drive. You should still have dvd Playing on the screen.
This is because the dvd player thinks you're still in park. The bad part is that your volume on the steering wheel (?) does not work and also you cant change tracks in any music (I think that's what's being said). The moment you turn the switch off the radio and functions return to normal.
**NOTE** There are 2 red wires. The one you want is the one closest to the middle (middle of what I have no clue on earth). Good luck (you'll need it haha)

Hope this English translation helps someone.

How to Bypass an Automobile DVD Player's Parking Brake Safety Switch

Obviously, a screen playing a dvd within view of the driver poses a real safety risk, so the manufacturers apply certain safeguards, in this case forcing you to wire your TV to the parking break in order to view the screen. When wired to the parking break, this requires you to be stationary and have the parking brake engaged in order to view the television.

When wiring the dvd unit, you can bypass this safety feature on some models, while others require you to buy additional parts to accomplish this. Most newer models have switched to a system that senses motion and won't turn on regardless of how you wire it. However, some are still possible to bypass the old-fashioned way.

Things You'll Need

Wire strippers
End cap or electrical tape

Instructions

1

Pull the unit from your dash (assuming it is installed already).
2

Find the ground wire (-12 volt). In most cars, it is black. For your specific car, you can consult a reference chart (see Resources).

3

Strip the ends off of the wire that is supposed to be connected to the parking brake, the ground for the dvd player and the ground wire from the car. You only need about 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch of exposed wire.
4

Connect the three wires by twisting them together and covering them with an end cap if you have one, or electrical tape if you don't.
5

Place the unit back inside the dash.
6

Turn the unit on to ensure that the wires didn't come loose as you were placing it back into the dash.
