  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a Motorola Razr Maxx. I have a fair amount of music on it. What would be the best way to play it on my system? (4.6L w/Tech package).

Could I use a USB cable on one end (plugged into the USB outlet in the console with the appropriate connector plugged into the Razr?

Or would I need to run a headphone cable from the female end from the phone to the input in the console?

Or is there something else I need to do? (my Genny is a '10 so no streaming of music)

You can stream.

Read here.

It's just that streaming gizmo is $60. More than I wand to spend on a straeaming device. Plus I'm thinking running a straight m to m cable (wire) to plug into the appropriate female inlets to us just seems like a better option. I men a $2.00 would have better quality over streamed blue truth, at least that's the way I'm thinking ATM.

Fire away as I'm here to learn, not to engage in silly wars. IF someone wants to pick a fight me I'll gladly take them on the 2md week in October on Maui, :welcome::welcome:

Obviously there are differences between my car and a 2010, but on mine, connecting my HTC EVO to the USB port only charges the phone. From the home menu, the "USB" selection is greyed out so it does not recognize the phone as an ordinary USB drive. I can play music from thumb drives and have downloaded video and audio to Jukebox from them but don't really use that because I can stream directly from the phone which works quite well. My guess is that it will only work with a dedicated drive.

$60? $25 and change. Worth it to me to not have to mess with cables. Been there done that.

You most likely be able to use just USB as most phones won't be recognized as a mass storage device I believe.

I cannot find that receiver for $25. Got a linky?

If it's anything like mine in the Coupe, streaming/bluetooth will be a big disappointment, audio-wise, very faint and muffled. I don't use the phone for music, and I think using it through USB as a drive doesn't allow bluetooth to work, if memory serves. I've just put songs on a regular jump drive connected to the USB and that sounds very good, if a bit bassy/boomy.

Doesn't that Monoprice unite require 110V AC power? How do you power it?

Ummm.... third bullet in the description???

"USB A female port for powering the receiver from any USB power source"

I think I'll try using the iPod/iPhone cable connection first. I've already got one, so why not use it with my iPod. If I don't care for that, I'll check into bluetooth streaming, but, like stated above, bluetooth audio quality is pretty low. Even using my USB flash drive, I don't have the quality I wish. Not sure why, perhaps my bit rates aren't high enough, but, don't know enough about that to speak intelligently, so I'll leave that alone.

Now, if someone knows how to convert songs on my flash drive to a higher bit rate, I'd love to hear about it. :)

How does it sound? Compared to CD, sat and iPod?

I have generally had very good experiences with BT streaming in multiple cars. I definitely have not experienced the depth of the negatives that many have expressed here. (For reference, I can tell the difference between a 128kbs MP3 and a 192kbs MP3 in quiet, reasonable environment). I understand intellectually that BT streaming may be lower quality than an analog audio feed or straight digital feed from an audio player. However, I have not heard enough difference to write it off completely. Especially in a car that generates 60-something DB of road noise. I have used BT streaming through two or three different automakers and two different aftermarket devices. All sounded very good-- they were not as good as my 256kbs bit rate music over an analog audio cable; but they were way better than my old 128kbs bit rate files used to be.

The overall convenience, and the coolness of anyone in the car being able to DJ music far outweighs any disadvantages I have heard. Plus, you can always plug in a hard-wire cable if you want ultimate quality.

Here is how I would rate my experience with music quality over various sources in my car. This is my 1-10 scale.

SACD (no experience)
10 CD
10 HD Radio
8 iPhone 256kbs - direct analog connection
7 iPhone BT Streaming (multiple cars & devices)
7 XM (Honda & Hyundai)
6 Sirius (BMW)
5 iPhone 128kbs - direct analog connection
4 FM
3 AM
