  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Please post in the right forum. Please!

Here are a list of topics that I moved YESTERDAY. These are only topics that were listed in the Recent Posts area. I'm afraid to look beyond a few days...

I think people are under the impression that just because they own a Genesis sedan, they SHOULD talk about ANYTHING with their Genesis Sedan buddies in the MAIN Genesis Sedan forum (same goes for the Coupe guys).. But that's not how online forums work. There are categories in place for a reason. When a first time visitor comes to this community with questions, they can easily find their answers by searching in the forums where the answers to their questions should be.. If these topics are not posted in the proper areas, these new visitors may never find their answers - and leave for good. This is not in the best interests of the community as a whole - because the more members we have here, the more valuable this place becomes for all of us - as a resource rich with information and comradery.

Please take a moment to consider which forum you're posting a topic in when you're about to start a new discussion.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of over-segmenting forums, since it gives people more choices as to which sub-topic they post to. And that means they will probably choose wrong.

There's also human nature in play here: There are certain areas here that get many more reads than others. I know some of the stuff I've posted in some of the lesser read areas of this forum would get 10 times as many hits if I posted them in the general Genesis sedan area.

Further, people know that you or a moderator will move it, so if it's not a case of "don't know" then it's a case of "don't care."

Just my two cents. I know it's a sensitive topic, so I hope it doesn't get me banned ;)

Yep

by the way, why are the primary forums named Genesis S380 and S460? Are we the Benz S-Class? BHxxx would be more appropriate

I agree with dataguy. In a perfect world everything would be where it belongs, but give people too many choices and they're going to just be lazy and post it in the general discussion forum or wherever they typically post the most. Especially since they know they'll get more feedback that way. A vast majority of our members seldom visit or post in many of the various sub-forums.

As long as most of us post in the proper spots, and the team continues to move discussions to where they belong, all these areas will become busy as people finding the site through search engines fall right into the area they need to be on their very first visit. The busiest and most successful forums are arranged this way and since I don't see the need to recreate the wheel, I'm asking for all of us to follow this simple rule. :)

It is nice that someone has taken the initiative to have a forum. If I can remember to do the things you ask, I will abide.

Thank you! Since I posted this message several months ago, things have become much more organized. Most people are posting in the right spots. Now I can spend time doing other things like upgrading scripts, answering emails and resetting passwords for people who can't figure out how to do it themselves. :)

I agree. It makes it easier to find and follow a specific topic if it's where it's supposed to be. Putting the right words in the subject lines helps too. If you read your own subject line and cannot really tell what you posted on, no one else will either.

Thank you, Rebecca. :)

Apologies - I just posted the Consumer Reports article in the Genesis Forum. I hadn't seen the "In the news" forum. I don't think I can move it, so I just wanted to let you know.

All taken care of. Thank you for letting me know!

Way too many forum segments! This defeats the purpose of a forum. Its like going to a bar and you start talking baseball and they tell you to go to another place in the bar to talk baseball. I'll never visit the sub-forums unless I have that specific issue, so the result is I'll never read and learn from the posts that are there.
As a potential Genesis owner, I want a broad spectrum of information about the car.

I agree that the forum should have some sort of structure. Some of the postings just clutter up the forum causing members to have to wade through postings to find the information they are seeking.
Postings must be posted in the right section in order to do effective searches for information. Everything that is posted shows up on “NEW POSTS” anyway, so why not make this guy’s job easier and post under the right section.

Please! Too many sub-forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just do not get it. We aren't here to try as hard as we can to live by your rules. Too many sub-forums wipes out a huge reason that members join. If I am thinking about buying a Genesis, as I am, I want to know about all the issues. Am I supposed to read every forum? Forget it . Too much trouble. Roll it into one forum for a car model. Beyond that you are destroying the usefulness of the site WITH NO material necessity. If we want a specific topic we use the search feature. We want to read it all in one place and then WE DECIDE WHAT WE WANT TO READ.
I'm sure you will find this post objectionable as you hold a different view. Open up your mind and think like a member - not a policeman. Slice and dice and we go to another forum.

//Close to sedan purchase.

I am going to go out on a limb here, but with the attitude you exhibit, I don't think there would be any love lost if you did.

Or perhaps you could start your own forum if that is the way you want things, but don't come here and sh!t in someone's back yard when you don't take care of the landscaping.

I appreciate the hard work of the OP, and if making an effort to post in the proper forum makes his job and life easier, than we as a community should want to show support in that endeavor.

Frankly, Southern Boy said it well -- every single new post shows up exactly where you'd expect it to, and as posts are updated, nobody should miss a thing.

And then there's always the Yugo, AMX Gremlin, or Chevy Vega forums for those that don't like this one! Lol

I don't know where this is supposed to be posted however one thing that has been bothering me about the Genesis is why the panic alarm is just a little beep instead of the horn?

Even the Elantra has a more sustancial sound.

This won't scare anyone off. Also hard to find in a parking lot.

Does anyone have an answer?

Walter
