  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Please Read.....Dangerous 8-Speed Transmission

i went the gorilla tape route on my 3.8. The difference was immediate and obvious, and i've been very happy with the results.

get an intake, makes a world of a difference. R2c performance sells one. I removed the flapper at first and it helped but went with the intake and have not looked back. It really opens up the engine!!

Just turned 90K on our 2012 prem/tech 3.8L, so far we've have very few issues with it. Seems to be a really reliable vehicle. Bought it new in 2011.

I'll be honest with issues we HAVE had:

OEM battery died after one year (lived in AZ at the time). Replaced under warranty.

Returned car to dealer for a couple of recalls (brake fluid, etc)

Had headlight/turn signal stalk replaced twice: once under warranty (2013 or 2014), and then under extended warranty (2018).

Had a cut wire on back of head unit that affected video (replaced under warranty), was taken care of a few days after we got the car.

Once in a while the proximity sensors go off, will have that looked at soon.

The front and rear bumpers had problem with the clear coat paint - repainted under the extended paint/body warranty.

The overhead dome/cabin light for the driver side failed a few months ago - as it's a non-replaceable bulb assembly, it was replaced under warranty.

Radio on/off volume knob retainer broke - replaced myself for $12 from an Online Hyundai Parts Store.

We thought that trunk access had failed - but was told over phone that we'd probably bumped or activated valet mode switch in glovebox (that was a day or two after buying the car).

One of the hood bumpers popped out, also replaced it by ordering part from Online Hyundai Parts Dealer.

And my ongoing beef about the NAV updates.

We have the Hyundai Fuel Card that Hyundai periodically puts money on for gas as a result of that class action lawsuit. I just take the car in and they verify mileage, and Hyundai sends me a fuel card.

Other than that, nothing big. I've done my own plugs, oil/filter changes (for the most part), K&N filter, cabin filters. Bulbs. Replaced serpentine belt myself. Done intake cleaning. Replaced battery last year (2018, as the OEM battery lasted from 2012 when IT was replaced (above).

Overall it's been a damn good car.

Landtuna,

What a dumb thing to say, "Neither Hyundai nor the dealership put your kids in the car". Are you suggesting that no one should ride in your car other than yourself ? I don't believe that Hyundai specifies when they sell their cars that they recommend that it should only be driven without passengers ?

Landtuna,

What a dumb thing to say, "neither Hyundai nor the dealership put your kids in the car". Do you really feel that way? Does your wife or kids ride in your car ? I don't know anyone who drives a car and never has passengers in it. Do You ????

Landtuna,

Do you realize that Landtuna wrote that in 2015 and hasn't logged into this forum in over a year.

This seems more like a dealership issue than a manufacturer issue.

I don't understand why you are hesitant to post the name of the dealership. Prevent someone else from doing business with these people because they sound like the definition of the term stealership. Unless you are lying, none of this qualifies as slander. You had work done at the dealership, this is what happened after the work was done. All FACTUAL. Nothing more to it.
Thank you my exact thoughts when I read that post

Got to 122K on my 2015 V8 without any transmission issues whatsoever. Maybe they improved it between 2012 (when it was first introduced) and 2015? Actually the whole car was mostly without issues and probably the best overall car I've ever owned.

2015 wasn't without its 1st year issues (sunroofs and body welds) but yes I agree Hyundai has had quite a while to sort out the drive train issues in the Genesis. 2013+ has generally been very solid.
