  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My daughter lightly struck a car parked across from our driveway when she was backing out. It scratched both cars and we paid for the neighbors and had a paintless dent repair guy we've used take care of our Genesis. The impact was on the left rear and was just enough to cause the backup sensor on that side to pop out. After fixit the bumper we frequently get a blind spot warning, but not always - sometimes it works.

I ran a code scanner and it gives me a "C2703(54) [0x670354]Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear, Warning indicator requested". Research indicates this code suggests the BCW system most likely needs calibration reset, with failure a potential but unlikely since it sometimes works. The dealer wants $200+ to run this test, which takes my scanner about 60 seconds and based on videos can be reset with a GDS VCI type bidirectional code tool in about 60 more seconds.

I'd have no issues paying $50 for this, but $200 for 2 minutes seems ludicrous. I've seen some scanners that can do these resets, but I'm not sure which ones may be able to do this exact type of reset and what hidden costs (app subscriptions or whatever) might come with it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Call a few independent mechanics, especially those that work on Hyundai or Genesis models. Ask if they can perform a blind spot sensor calibration. They have the professional tools for this quick reset and will charge you much less than the dealership.

Ok I'll can around. Thanks!

I'll definitely do that, then. The first couple of shops I called didn't have the calibration tools or wanted about as much as the dealer just to run a non-specific diagnostic, but I'll expand my search.

Yeah, that's the right move. Good independent shops with the right MB-specific tools are out there, but they can be hard to find. The dealer charges a lot, but sometimes they're the only ones with the exact software and know-how. Keep calling around, someone will have a better price for a proper calibration.

Please be aware that the ultrasonic sensor that popped out has nothing to do with the blind spot warning system. It uses radar sensors hidden behind the bumper cover in both rear corners. From your description, it seems very likely that the bumper cover was pushed in enough to contact the censor on that side. This may have damaged the sensor itself, or it may have just bent the bracket the sensor mounts on. Either way, the rear bumper cover will have to be removed to get to it to see what is going on. This isn't going to just be some recalibration with a scan tool.

I considered that and it certainly could be the case. That said, the contact was on the driver side corner, and the specific failure code would suggest it's the right side radar that's tripping the calibration alert. There's also the fact that it doesn't trip sometimes and it actually works, so I don't think it is broken.

I'll call around and at least find a shop that can do the reset and the bumper/sensor work if need be for less than the dealer.
Not sure why this reply has been awaiting moderation for like a week to 10 days, but maybe because I changed my username. Anyway, trying this just to close the loop.
