  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pointless Hard Drive?

It looks like M&Soft has confirmed the price of the update $200. This update will come out on 1.31.09.

I would assume that. Mapnsoft.com might sell the discs or sell a coupon for the discs. On the Sonata you update it and give them a device ID which spits out an activation code. You can't make copies of it and install it on more than one vehicle. VW does allow that with the RNS-510 touch screen navi unit. That one has a harddrive but uses a DVD to update it. Once you install the maps which takes about 1 to 3 hours you don't need it and you can resell it, copy it or give to friends but I don't recommend that.

Lexus and Infiniti are different. Infiniti you buy the $190 maps at navteq.com as usual and they give a coupon code where you go to your local dealer ship to redeem it. They then install the maps with their special diagnostic tool that has a USB to CF adapter. It takes about an hour to upgrade the map data. Lexus is similar but it costs $265 plus labor which is not included. it takes about 45 minutes to update any Lexus HDD NAVI system. It too requires their special computer that uses a firewire connection to update the maps.

Hyundai could use mapnsoft to sell a coupon for the map updates and the dealer could install it but they seem committed to having the user do it.

Hope this helps.

One of the main reasons I've not taken interest in this car is due to the lack of music file ripping.

That's a dealbreaker for me and for so much car and value, one would think that such a feature would be included.

Why? You can leave a thumb drive plugged in in the center console, you never see it and it just works. It would be a pain if I had to copy the stuff to the car. Just plug and go.
