  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have the black interior with ash(?) open pore wood trim. What should I treat this with in cleaning it. Is there an "agent" that will give the wood a bit of a shine - without wrecking the wood (I prefer gloss wood in a car)

thanks

I think the whole point of the matte wood is that it doesn't have a shine. :D I suspect anything you try will be absorbed unevenly (this is real wood after all) and will look blotchy. If I recall correctly, the manual just recommends using a lightly damp clean non-lint cloth to remove surface dust and dirt. Microfibre towels would probably work best.

My guess is that the wood has a sealant applied from the factory.

Best bet would be a damp cloth to remove any dirt/dust.

IMO, the matte wood is the best looking thing on the Genny. Pure class and elegance. I would love to find a totaled Genny with the real wood and transfer it to my plastic equipped car.

The wood trim is definitely finished, just with a low gloss product. It is not raw wood. You could try some wax, but I would do that in a inconspicuous place first as a test, and not likely to get a true high-gloss finish.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Not yet available for 2015 sedan

Jarred52 doesn't tell us what year and model he owns. Further, lots of Gen 1 owners read this thread too. Beyond that, you can be assured that Wowtrim.com will eventually stock real wood trim for '15+ Genesi.

Their website also states, "We also offer Original Equipment Manufacturer match (“OEM”), which means we can manufacture a dash kit to exactly match your existing trim."

Thanks for the responses. I have a Gen 2 car. The Wow Trim site indicates that their product is an overlay of the current trim and is covered in polyurethane. I'm not interested in that type product.

Seems like you'll have to wait an eternity then. Nobody here, as I recall, has never done what you are seeking, at least not for a price that you would be willing to pay.

The only way I know of getting what you want it to refinish the existing wood trim. Take your car to a body shop and ask them if they can mask and paint the current wood trim with several coats of high-gloss polyurethane.

As I mentioned previously, a slightly glossier look can probably be obtained with some car wax, but make sure to test it first on an inconspicuous place.

I also did not like the matte wood finish in my black 2015 Genesis. I used "MINWAX" paste finishing wax. Apply thin coats with a clean damp rag. This hand buffs up to a very nice semi gloss finish and brings out the grain of the wood. Much nicer in my opinion.

I also use the same Minwax on my 230 year old Mahogany Grandfather clock which buffs up to a fabulous high gloss finish.

It would be interesting to see a photo of this.
