  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Creating this poll to know how many GV70 owners have faced the acceleration issue where the vehicle doesn’t/hesitates to accelerate and won’t shift gears and RPM get abnormally high.
Keep hearing that only those who have issue write about it, so hoping that ones who have never experienced it also come forward and vote to get a sense of how bad the situation really is.
This is a safety issue and NHTSA won’t issue a recall unless there’s enough people/vehicles experiencing the same issue.

Please describe exactly what you're experiencing... for those of us who haven't seemed to have experienced it.

Yup, I had that exactly. At lower speeds, I would press the gas pedal halfway or 3/4 and nothing would happen - which is really bad in heavy traffic situations. Then on the highway, I floored it and the RPM was racing but it wouldn't shift up, so the engine was racing but there was no acceleration at all. If I backed off and accelerated lightly, it would speed up. Scary.

My dealership diagnosed it as a throttle body issue - replaced it (after the typical 4-5 week waiting period) and that fixed it. They wanted me to keep driving it while they waited for the part but I said no way - it's dangerous to drive when you try to accelerate to merge and find that you can't! They gave me another GV70 to drive for the 5 weeks.

Cast my vote for Yes - Canadian 2.5 Adv+. Has happened once, around 4,000km's (2500mi), but was my spouse trying to explain it to me over the phone and I had not yet heard of it, so I don't have specifics other than, "Flooring it, revving, and nothing happening." Crawled home, parked it, and has not happened again in recent months. I initially thought maybe they flicked the paddle shifter by accident, causing it to rev and operate weird, and when it never happened again, left it at that.

Now I'm reading these posts on the topic and realizing maybe we were victims also, albeit only once and only for a short time. Fingers crossed it magically fixed itself... lol

I accidentally self-induced a loss of acceleration today. While sitting at a long stop light I wondered what would happen if I press and long-hold the buttons on the steering wheel.

Doing that to the lane assist seems to toggle the visual lane departure warning.

Long press and hold on the cruise control button induced some kind of rev/speed limiter that auto-set to 20 MPH. The power was drastically reduced and was very very slow to accelerate between 15-20 MPH, where it would not let me go any faster. Almost like a valet mode speed lock.

Long press and hold again disabled it. I'm guessing turning the engine off and on would also disable it.

Could this be what some people are experiencing?

Separately I had an issue a couple months ago while camping in the mountains. Was stopped on a relatively steep incline for road work. Turned off the engine since we were stopped for 15 minutes. When I turned on the engine and quickly shifted into drive, the car would not shift out of first gear. So i limped it past the road work and pulled off the road. As soon as I pulled off and the car leveled out, it shifted fine and never happened again.

My issue was root caused to a coolant leak in the inter cooler presumably from a rock. 2 other GV70s came in with the exact same issue at my dealer afterwards.
It appears acceleration lag can happen due to several reasons besides that - throttle body, fuel pump, bad injectors. These are the ones people have covered.
Well in my case it took them 6 months and 2 trips to diagnose it and not until there was a DTC and my vehicle won’t go over 45mph at which point I just had to just drop it off.

It wasn’t covered under warranty. Genesis claimed outside influence. In my mind it’s a design flaw with the front end if multiple people experience the same issue. At least they should set DTC’s for it.

The vehicle has since been bought back. There were other common issues as well, differential being one of them (multiple times).

Good luck to all the GV70 owners. It’s a beautiful car when it works. Hope mine didn’t have so many issues. At least I got to experience it.

My experience was very different...and Genesis was able to find error codes that pointed to the throttle body. There have also been similar issues with fuel pumps and injectors that have similar symptoms.

Well I just changed my vote to yes I have experienced pressing the accelerator seeing the mpg gauge lower without acceleration or a weak dangerous in traffic response after a lag.

If I stomp on the accelerator it will rev to between 4 and five thousand rpms never up shifting or accelerating. While the display shows it is in D when it revs, sometimes it will change to what gear its stuck in. Memory serves me its always 4th or 5th gear but as I said it also stays in D display when revving never speeding up.

I will be making an appointment soon and drive accordingly knowing I cannot trust it to respond properly to the given commands. I did pay attention to the turbo gauge when these things are happening and it appears the turbos never kick in. The 4 cyl needs the turbo badly.

Exact same issue I had. It was the throttle body that needed replacement. They had to take a portable diagnostic machine with them to capture the code while they were driving it. No issues since then though...about a year and a half ago.

Thank you for more details on your fix.

Don't know if this qualifies, while my wife was driving our brand new 2025 GV70 2.5 ADV, the engine just shut off at about 40 MPH. I had her pull it off the road, shut it off and restart it. That was about a month ago. No issue since then. I did vote yes in the poll because I wasn't sure.

I wanted to follow up that I had a recall on a low pressure fuel pump. The notice stated if I didn't get it done I may experience a sudden loss of power or acceleration. Solved my problem.

Glad your problem has been solved. As per mine, only happened once and hasn't since.

Loss of acceleration and “bogs” down all of a sudden. When going up a big hill at 3ish mph, the engine over revs. I have 2024 2.5 gv70

Sounds like what happened to me and my 2.5 the only difference was I was entering state and interstate highway's. Low Pressure fuel pump replacement fixed it. I originally thought the turbo was overheated after checking very low fluid. A top off did not fix anything. High revs no shifting and going no where fast were the symptoms.

Recently purchased a 2026 GV70. On a couple of occasions, in "Comfort" mode at low speeds, the acceleration hesitates. I have to depress the accelerator about half way down and then the engine jerks and accelerates. If it continues I will bring car in to have it checked.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago with my 2024 Gv70. Dealer said it was a water pump that helped cool the turbo charger and kept it from supplying power. Didn’t sound right to me, but everything is working fine now after the fix.

I am facing a similar issue with my Genesis gv70 2.5T prestige (based in Toronto, Canada). Mileage is around 70,000 kms. Loss of power when I accelerate and the Turbo doesn't kick in at all. When I start the car in the morning ,the turbo kicks in for like 5 mins and thats it for the day. Has anyone found a solution for this ? Thank you very much !

Update on 10/3/25: Brought car in to Genesis dealer where purchased. It's been there almost 2 weeks with no definitive diagnosis. Very frustrating!
Wondering what my options will be if not fixed very soon. "Lemon Law" ???
Purchased only 3 months ago, with 4K miles on it.
