  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Creating this poll to know how many GV70 owners have faced this rear differential issue!
Keep hearing that only those who have issue write about it, so hoping that ones who have never experienced it also come forward and vote to get a sense of how bad the situation really is.

There's a TSB for it. Had the fix, and the noise is gone. Been about 1,000 miles so far and it's still perfect.

2023 GV70 Sport Prestige. Had the whining sound, very faint, just about from the beginning (July 2022). Now I am at almost 4000 miles with no change.
I mentioned it to the SA but at the time there was no TSB and scheduling was tight. Now, with the TSB out, I will bring up the issue the next time I am in for service or as needed.

What does the TSB call for?

See thisthread:
Interesting. My G70 has a whirring/humming noise from the rear diff when turning in either direction at low speeds. The dealer is replacing it. I have no idea if it uses the same rear diff as the GV70. It's got a mechanical LSD.

Same here, replaced once, and a month later had to be taken back into the dealer. A month later, they state there is nothing wrong with the car after a Field Engineer drove it. Ridiculous.

For me it's the "LS Differential electronic actuator". On order. Sat in dealer for many days to determine that.

I had the TSB fix done (phase 1; just tightening the differential carrier bolt). The noise has stopped. Let’s see if it stays away. It looks like there are two rear end issues affecting this vehicle; one involving the LSD (which my car does not have) and one that is addressed by the TSB. Hopefully the latter is less serious and recurrent based on these threads.

I'm sad to add my 2023 GV70 2.5t Sport Prestige with 4700 miles to the list. I noticed a high pitched sound above 50 MPH about a week ago. I had heard enough recordings from this and other forums of what the Rear Differential failure sounds like, so I was pretty sure it now was my turn. I made an appointment with my Dealer last week for today. It was a great experience overall as the Genesis lead guy went with me for a drive, heard it immediately and now my GV70 is marooned at the Dealer. They don't know how long it will take to replace it, but they suggested I should count on it taking a while. They didn't have any Genesis loaner cars, so I'll be driving a Hyundai Tucson, for a while.

The lead mechanic was wonderful as was the service department overall. I've had my GV70 since last February and this was the fist time I've had a need to make a visit. We have two 2023 GV70 2.5t Sport Prestige, and the other one with the same mileage is not having this issue.

I was soooooooo tempted to trade it in on a Red GV70 3.5t Sport Prestige, but the out of pocket and increase in monthly payment, just isn't justified. Still that red 3.5t, really spoke to me..........and I was born without the patience gene, so this is going to test me to the max.

Here's an update on my Rear Differential:

Kudos to the MAX to our dealer, Lakeland Genesis in Lakeland Florida, where we also bought our two GV70 Sport Prestige.

I dropped the car off yesterday. They determined it was indeed the rear differential. I fully expected them to tell me the parts were unavailable and it would take weeks, maybe a couple months to get it back.

I really was considering trading it on an 2024 GV70 Sport Prestige, so I was in discussion with our sales person on that.

This afternoon, my service advisor called and I could have just fallen out of my chair when he said they not only the parts, but the rear differential had been replaced, the car was out of shop, fully tested and I could come get it.

There are so many stories of bad service on this forum with Hyundai dealers. My dealer is beyond remarkable and I can't tell you how refreshing it was to be taken care of so professionally and quickly. My drive home from the dealer was smoother than the car has ever driven. In fact I had mentioned to the service advisor that the car had an vibration at precisely 42 mph, since I took delivery of the car. Evidently, this was due to rear differential and replacing it completely eliminated the vibration.

This is one happy camper for sure!!

Good to hear and hopefully it doesn't return. Do they replace with a new part #?

Everything was replaced with brand new parts. I don't know the part numbers. It turns out my dealer happens to be the parts distributor to most of the Hyundai/Genesis dealers in the Tampa, FL area, so they had the parts needed, without having to order them. This was indeed lucky for me. They told me Genesis uses a number of manufacturers for parts and evidently, one in particular manufactured faulty differentials. Genesis is replacing them as quickly as they fail and they are evidently not using the same part from this manufacturer. They also said they have had to replace a number of differentials, but have not had anyone return with the same issue after the differential was replaced. There is an actual TSB on this issue from Genesis. I'd fully expect they've figured out the issue and certainly don't want to have to keep replacing these expensive parts on the same car multiple times.

My GV70 was picked up today as the parts from the TSB finally came in. Let's see if that fixes it. If not they said would need a new Diff.

Fingers crossed.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I've driven my car about 100 miles since picking it up yesterday and it drives better than it even drove the day I took delivery!

I have no confidence in these replacements at all. I had been hopeful but mine was replaced at 4,700 KM (noticed it at 1,300 KM). They made a big deal out of telling me that this was a different part number and it was fixed, but it returned again at 20,000 KM. Same exact problem - the TSBs do nothing, the new part numbers do nothing. I raised it with our dealership again and asked what happens when I'm out of warranty and they just said there are no extended warranties available for this issue. The cost to replace out of pocket, by the way, is $4,400 (CAD).

This is a serious issue they can't seem to fix.

I don't know where you live, but I'm in the US and my dealer offers an unlimited mileage powertrain warranty, which would cover this if it ever happens when I'm out of warranty and the standard warranty here is 5 year 60,000 mile warranty, so I'm not in the least concerned about running out of warranty on this. Plus for anyone who has this happen multiple times, our lemon laws would cover us. But honestly, the standard 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty should cover anyone even if their dealer doesn't extend that to unlimited miles lifetime.

I like the car enough I was actually prepared to trade my 2023 and get a 2024 GV70 Sport Prestige.

Worried, I am not and I have confidence in my dealer that they'll take care of me.

In Canada, they have confirmed for me (recently) that there is no extended warranty beyond 5 years/100,000 KM. So we're screwed if it happens again after this period.

We got sucked into buying a 10 year 'bumper to bumper' service contract. I plan to get rid of the car as soon as it's fixed but if we change our mind probably good to have!
