If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We got sucked into buying a 10 year 'bumper to bumper' service contract. I plan to get rid of the car as soon as it's fixed but if we change our mind probably good to have!
I don't know what you can buy out there which comes close to the GV70? The new GLC300 is not doing well in the forums with issues. The BMW X3 or Audi Q5 don't beat the Genesis in value, features or power for the money.

Perhaps don't make a rash decision after you get your car back. You'll surely be hosed in a trade.

Yeah, agreed. Once Genesis figures out the underlying issue, the fix will solve it and you'll never have a problem again. Give it some time.

Yikes.. I wonder if Genesis changed part suppliers and there are some growing pains. Like I said, this will get figured out.

I've seen other videos from this technician. He's really good and I'd be happy to entrust my GV70 to him. I don't think we've seen many, if any complaints of locked up front ends, fortunately. I guess anything can go wrong with any car, however.

Just got mine back from Service. I am not hearing the sound anymore but time will tell.

Just an update on my own fix. 3K miles and still perfect. In fact the car feels better now than when new.

such a nice ride...

Mine had the issue starting around 6k miles, few months after i got it. Took it in, they had the car for a month, after i drove the car with them, they also had a Genesis Engineer see it, then they replaced the rear differential and the whine noise went away for a month. Then took it back, Dealer said they couldn't replicate it, they brought in an Engineer from Genesis again who also said the car was operating as intended, even when the noise was there and same as the previous time. I took the car back, and a few weeks later i made another appointment as the noise had gotten way worse. I told Genesis i was going to Lemon Law the car if i the issue wasn't fixed or if i got another response of "car is working as intended", when it clearly is not. They had the car for 3 weeks, waiting for an engineer, who came and said "car is working as intended", and was asked to pick up the car.
I told Genesis i was starting the Lemon Law process with a lawyer and a few days later they decided to buy back the car. I am currently waiting for their formal offer which should arrive any day now.
In the meantime, they say the car is safe to drive, but the noise is getting very annoying, can't avoid it even with music on.
All i asked was for them to fix the issue with a non defective part, but i guess their whole pool of replacement parts is defective and they have to go through them to not lose millions, and rather buy back a few vehicles or deal with some upset customers for a bit.
I am done dealing with it though, not looking to spend $65k on a car to be dealing with an issue that they don't want to fix.

I've now driven about 1K miles since having mine replaced and have to agree with you. The car drives better than it ever did and I thought it drove well to begin with.

So bizarre. We have 35K miles on ours and have never had an issue. I go out of my way to try and hear the whine, still nothing. Guess we got the good batch of differentials.

It won't happen to everyone. We bought 2 GV70 Sport Prestige last February. Mine needed the rear differential replaced. Our other one has not had an issue. I know a few people with GV70s which are now over 2 years old and they too have not had an issue. It's hit or miss. But it's not an issue which would make be sour on the car. My dealer had my car ONE day to replace the differential in my car. They were terrific and I can't say it won't ever happen again, but if it does, my dealer seems well equipped to take care of me quickly and efficiently.

My rear diff issues never prevented me from driving it as I identified it early. The evaluation they do looks at the rear diff fluid and they report that the fluid is dirty and filled with filings, so definitely a problem! They have done this twice now and I keep driving it while I wait for the part (about 5 weeks). They have only had the vehicle for one day to do the replacement and I've had a loaner vehicle both times.

My concern is what happens when my warranty expires? They have said they will not extend their warranty to cover this issue and I've had two replaced in 14 months. The cost of each replacement is $4,400.

In my opinion, if they don't know what's wrong and can't fix it, they need to extend the warranty for this problem for the lifetime of the vehicle (at least with the original owner).

What are the lemon laws in Canada? Here in the US if a manufacturer can't resolve a problem after 3 tries, we have the right to lemon law a car. The threat of going that route, might encourage Genesis to up your warranty for this?

Each province has their own consumer protection legislation. Plus there is CAMVAP - Home where a consumer can enter into arbitration with the manufacturer.

Just as each state in the US has their own Lemon Law process. But most are geared in favor of the consumer and manufacturers would prefer to avoid the hassle and cost of going through a lemon law situation.

I had two 2022 GV70 3.5T Sport Plus. One had the eLSD issue the other did not. But even on the one that did, there was no detectable noise coming from the rear. The one that did have the issue was traded in for a GV80 at about 16,000 km.

I had so liked this SUV and had researched the hell out of it, which only reinforced my liking more.
But now, I see
  • threads like these on this forum, where it is clear it is so prevalent and with no guaranteed fix
  • the low-reliability ratings on Consumer reports (where the rear differential was specifically called out), and that
  • I am from Canada (5 yr warranty instead of 10, and no lemon laws like in the US)
And I give up.
I am moving on to perhaps other Asian luxury brands that may offer lesser value but aren't too shabby either.

For what it's worth, I will be emailing Genesis about my decision not to go with them and why. They had a first-time luxury buyer in me, who would probably have been with them for decades.

Wanted to thank many of you on here, who shared their detailed findings and candid opinions.
Let's all hope Genesis gets back on track, well at least hopefully in another 5 years when I will start looking again.

That's a shame. It's perhaps the best SUV I've ever owned and yes, I had to have the differential replaced, which was quick, easy and painless. Good luck finding any car without its issues. If I had buy a new car tomorrow, I'd buy another GV70 Sport Prestige, exactly as the one I own. To me, its simply a wonderful car and drive.

You make a good point that the replacement is quick, easy and painless. The reality is that it's not a big deal, it's simply a bunch of gears. You can guarentee Genesis engineers are working on it and once they find the solution it will be permanently solved. So why pass up so a great vehicle? The problem is on them.
