I've driven 2300 miles on that replacement differential and am pleased to report it's as it should be: silent and smooth. I have high hopes and confidence that this will continue. One reads the automotive news and sees the woes that beset other car manufacturers: Lexus, Toyota, Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes, Mazda, etc. Genesis is certainly not immune to issues and recalls. Like we used to say: if it has wheels, propellers or high heels, you're gonna have problems with it.

Reporting that I recently changed the rear differential for a 3rd time. So far so good. Past experience tells me about 4000-6000km in, the problem noise would recur. I'm only about 1000km into the latest replacement and so far it is fine. I wasn't able to determine if the replacement is of a different part number as the original. If it is totally different then perhaps they've redesigned it and fixed the issue. Cautiously optimistic. Mine is a 2022 2.5 Advanced+ with about 30,000 km on it.

It is a stupid thought that the Eco coasting mode, which disconnects the engine from the transmission, might be partially responsible?

I've been experiencing the drone in my '22 2.5t. It is only present during the coasting mode.

Won’t say it’s a stupid thought. However, I’ve owned many vehicles, both awd and non-awd and have used the “neutral coast” shifter position and never have had an issue, and over every vehicle has been more of a gas saver doing this. The only difference is usually I try to closely match the engine rpm when I shift back into drive, and I believe it does help with the shock of reengagement. That the GV automatically disengages the coast feature with the engine at idle, and its resulting jolt to the drive train makes an eyebrow raise on your comment. I believe It has merit.

Well, my differential started to whine at about 3500 miles on my 2024. I took it to the dealer and they ordered a new differential. Before it came in, the TSB came out, so they performed that instead. Everything was fine until last week and at 36,700 miles, it started to whine again. I was hoping it had been fixed permanently, but I guess not.

Back to the dealer.
