  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I need help deciding which order I will go forward with my planned future mods. I would like your input one which order you would do these mods in and why. I am asking because of money. I can only afford 1 of these in the next month or two, then the others will probably happen either this fall, or when I come across some more money from selling some stuff I have.

important: All 3 of these mods are around $300, which is why one of the options has more than 1 mod, because it totals around $300.

1. Catch Can ($200), Heat Wrap Intake ($35) and BK Injector Cleaner ($25)
2. Ark Lowering Springs (Currently on sale for $300)
3. Sprint Booster ($300)

Please don't try to talk me out of these mods, I just need opinions on which one I should do first, second and third and why. I have already done my research and am set on doing all of these in the next calendar year.

Thanks for your input!

I'd do 2, 1, 3

Lowering gives immediate satisfaction from a good looking ride.
Then the injector cleaning and catch can for long term reliability/performance

Yeah, practicality says do #1 first but there is nothing practical about nice cars.

Currently I am leaning 1. first because of the long term engine health being important to me. I just want to see what the community thinks.

Thank you for your input!

Hello,

I have a 2012 3.8 as well (125 K + Miles ) and I was wondering about Mod #1 and how it would be beneficial for my Genesis. I'm sure I can look it up, but I was hoping you would give me a brief explanation of the benefits and how easy it is to do myself ? I see you are new here and while I dont have many posts, I've read the majority of threads on this forum relative to my model/year.

I appreciate any input you might have !

GDI engines have a higher chance of 'blow back' like oil and carbon from the block getting shot back into the intake. What the catch can does is catches all that nasty stuff from being put back into the intake. It keeps your engine cleaner and running better in the long run. There is no HP gain or noticeable difference, just a healthier engine.

Here is a link I found of a guy who basically shows every common mod to our cars:

Good luck on the forums. I am trying to be real active so the community is able to help me when I post.

No problem brother!

Feel free to hit me up anytime. I have only had my 2012 Genesis for 5 months, but I get super nerdy with things and have spent the last 2 months studying the car inside and out. I have made a handful of mods to the car and have a HUGE list of future mods. I love Hyundai and this is my 4th car in the Hyundai family. I was going to trade this car in for a Veloster or Coupe, but then I realized that the comfort and size of the Sedan is just too good to give up. I also figured out that the 2nd generation 3.8 Sedans were decently fast stock (5.4sec 0-60). When I learned that, I realized that I can turn the car into a sport/luxury sedan and become a sleeper. Just this morning I surprised an Infinity Coupe by how quickly the Genesis can pick up speed.

#1, #2, #3 in that order. And it might make sense to do a walnut shell treatment along with #1 to clean out whatever is already there that's keeping you from peak performance.

I'll have to watch some videos on walnut shell treatment, I have heard of it before.

I am shopping for catch cans right now. For the intake heat wrap, I am not sure how the wrap will go around the uneven parts of the intake. There isn't a lot of flat surfaces on the stock air box and intake tubes, so I am not sure how to wrap correctly.
