  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My poor Genny got hit in the drivers side rear tire/panel last night, tire at a 15 degree angle could not drive it home. Mechanically looks very fixable, I'm a little worried about what the insurance will say about the panel dent tho. I don't want to lose my Genny!

Sure looks fixable. Why would you lose it?

Don't know icbc is known to write things off even with minor damage. haven't heard from adjuster yet so we will see. only thing that bothers me is the unibody design

I know they used to calculate that if they can pay you out for less than the total of the damage and the residual value they will try as it is the cheaper option for them.

They tried that on me years ago when I lived in BC, fortunately the car had been towed to a repair facility and they they couldn't touch it unless I released it from the facility. Fought, but got it repaired.

Do your research on the value of the vehicle, they will try to lowball it to make it appear not worth fixing. They told me a 1969 Camaro was only worth $2200, I asked them which part they were referring to?

You've got to fight for your rights on this. The other insurance company is going to screw you. If your car is in great shape otherwise, thoroughly document it. They'll try their best to lowball you by showing you examples of crap cars to try to justify their offer.

update 3 and a bit months later... finally got my car back. Was waiting 2.5 months for the replacement rear stabilizer bar or w/e. Musta forged it in korea and shipped it the long way by boat or something. Was ridicules but i guess that's the price of having a rare car. Just happy to be able to drive it again.

ICBC is full of crap sometimes... lol Back in 2003, I wrote off my MR2 Turbo. About $5k worth of damage, they valued the car at $3k and offer me $3k to settle when there's no way I can replace the car. Values at the time were about $16k. I liked that car and I wanted to get it fixed, the damage wasn't that bad but they insisted on writing it off... After 3 months of going back and forth, I finally settled for $16k so I can buy another car in similar condition.

I imported a US model, mint condition... 6 years later, I get rear ended... again, about $5k damage. Around this time, values have dropped to around $6k because of all the JDM RHD imports. Instead of just writing it off like I was expecting them to, they valued the car at $15k insisted on fixing the car... wtf...

Jeez.... You could have found a rear bar yourself on one of the parts sites. They're uncommon, but not that "rare". Glad you have it back!

you woulda thought, guy told me the only other one he could find was at a wreckers, but the wrecker wouldn't part with it unless he bought the whole rear end. ya overall I'm just happy to have it back, and thankful i had another vehicle to drive in the mean time.
