  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hiya, folks.

I ordered a Genesis wing emblem kit (trunk, hood, 17" wheel caps) from a South Korean parts dealer, and out of curiosity, asked him if he would be able to export other Korean Hyundai parts.

He replied, "Yes, just send me a part # or picture, and I will let you know".

Now... I will wait for the actual parts I purchased from him to pursue this further - I only paid $44.89 shipped for the emblems, which I think is about the cheapest on these boards (I could be wrong). I want to make sure the parts are not substandard before I proceed.

For now... can we put together a list of things we might want, and perhaps include some good pictures of these products? The ultimate goal here is for us to get a group discount on these parts, and hopefully even be able to obtain hard-to-get (or impossible-to-get-in-the-US) parts for our cars.

=====

I will list a few of the parts I'm interested in, feel free to add to the list:

• Genesis Wing Emblem Kit (Hood/Trunk/17" Wheel Cap)
• Winged Airbag Unit
• Piano Black-trimmed Steering Wheel
• Cabin Air Filter
• 2012 Headlight Unit for 2009-2011 models

Assuming that center caps, front/rear badges, and air bag is for 2012 5.0 R Spec, count me in.

What is the price of the Genesis badge airbag unit. The current price of $250 is kinda too high just to replace the badge. Also I will definitely be getting the used 4.6 Genesis after the refresh comes out because I am sure it would drop the older used Genesis by a good amount. And it should allow me to get a good low price on them. BTW, you ordered it already right? Can you tell us when you get it, how long it took to get to you with shipping from S. Korea.

I don't know yet on the prices - waiting to get a bigger parts list here first, perhaps some numbers for each as well, and then asking him.

And yeah, I already ordered. Unfortunately, my e-check doesn't clear for another couple of days - I will track for you guys though, don't worry.

I've had my Genesis for a bit over a week now. I had ordered all my parts off ebay. the winged steering wheel decal from sgti267 was shipped from the US quickly and looks great. lilxskull, that's a good alternative to buying the whole new airbag unit, cost only $13.50 for the emblem and I haven't had any issues with it yet (I know, I've only had it a short time, but so far so good). the front and rear winged decals and 17" rim center caps from Kapamall777 who ships from Korea and took the longest to receive at about 9 days (I had ordered this before actually picking up my Genesis only to find out the dealership should have listed my car as having 18's, so now I've got 17's if anybody is interested and also I don't plan to use the front wing either. I kept only the rear wing from it.) I bought the six piece chrome pillar posts from g-autoparts, took a little while despite coming from just the west coast, but the quality of the cuts and everything are great. I finally ordered the correct 18" rim winged center caps from kdmsource.1735. I didn't have a single issue with ordering any of these parts, which people said they were looking for, from these ebay sellers. Since I'm new to the car, I'm still learning as to what is offered for it out there.

I've asked my contact, Hee Backjung of Filter Mall, for parts cost (and shipping) on the following items:

• Genesis Wing Emblem Kit (Hood/Trunk/17" Wheel Cap)
• Winged Airbag Unit
• Piano Black-trimmed Steering Wheel
• Cabin Air Filter
• 2012 Headlight Unit for 2009-2011 models
• 2012 Tail Light Unit for 2009-2011 models

We will need to ensure that the 2012 parts are in fact interchangeable with prior year models, but I'm hopeful for some good prices!

Will keep you posted of Hee's response.

PS --> His Ebay account shows 3,021 ratings, 99.7% positive feedback. ;)

There is room for a reliable parts source but as I stated in another post about Import Shark, if you are not going to stock all of your items here in the U.S. for sale, we will be having the Import Shark discussion all over again. Since Americans need instant answers when questions are asked and one cannot control the supply line from Korea, onshore stock levels are absolutely essential for customer satisfaction.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Is there any chance that he has the wing emblem cap for the 19" wheels on the R-spec? I am asking because I believe the 2012 Genesis that went on sale in Korea a month or so ago appears to be using that exact same wheel.

Like I said, these are things we need to vet out. When I go to the New York Auto show next week, I will measure the diameter of the wheel caps - I'm almost certain the caps in the 2012 Korean models (from 17" on up to 19") are the same size. Read it somewhere, but don't remember the link.

If there's an open r spec, I may also measure the steering wheel+airbag unit, in case it's changed from 2011 (doubt it).

msitter - I hear ya. Right now, I'm more concerned with getting parts you can't get anywhere else AND potentially at a much cheaper cost. So far, Hee has been very responsive (within 24 hrs of me contacting him on 3 separate occasions). Actual parts availability/shipping conversation response still remains to be seen. ;)

If you wind up disliking your chrome pillar covers, as I did, be VERY careful removing them. The factory pillar surface looks substantial, but it's actually very fragile and can be damaged easily. I had to get some black pillar covers (http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/album.php?albumid=290&pictureid=1682) to hide the damage.

My e-check cleared this morning, and I got a shipping confirmation email - it included a tracking number, and a short message saying the items were shipped international registered mail, and that they should arrive in 10 to 15 days.

Also got an email reply to my parts request saying that he'd look into the prices today. :)

Great. Keep us posted.

Thanks Moore. So far I think the chrome pillars are very fitting for my car, even more so with my car being black. Only thing is I hate finger prints :(

Question concerning parts for this car. I'm more familiar with Japanese cars from my years being stationed in Japan than I am with Korean cars. Is anybody aware if the Korean version of our car comes with or has the option of having power folding side mirrors? I loved that feature on my Nissan Cima and now living in old town New England, would be a great feature to make things easier when parking on the side of the roads here. Would like to always coming back to my car and having all my mirrors intact.

The factory service manual (which you can get for free by signing up with www.hmaservice.com and then using the "print" icon to print to a PDF file or to your own printer) "Body Electrical System" chapter does mention power folding mirrors, controlled by the Driver's Door Module (DDM). I'd guess that was one other feature removed from US spec cars to reach the price targets. To add power mirrors to your car, you'd need at least:
* the mirrors with the motor/mechanism. I don't know if the mechanism itself can be installed in the US spec mirrors.

* control switch panel for driver's door (ADM - Assist Door Module - in the manuals)

* maybe a new DDM

I'm guessing it will be much easier to figure out the power folding mirror situation once some of us get the 2012's with the feature. Then we can "reverse engineer" it and figure it out ;)
