If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just bought a 2018 G90 Ultimate. It has 11K miles on it. I am aware I get the 5yr/60K factory warranty and lose the 10yr/100k. I bought the car from a Cadillac dealer and they offered a third part maintenance for $5800 with a $300 deductible 7yr/100k. I was thinking this is super high but interested in any comments on this. I did not take the deal and of course it was "You have to buy it today or no deal!". If I bought the car from a Genesis dealer I imagine the would offer an extended warranty under a pre-certified offering, maybe??? With all the electronics I would feel better having a 100K warranty. I have a 2011 Genesis and have had a transmission put in it so most warranty cost to me would be worth it. Anyone have experience adding a good third party or tips on how I can get the car pre-certified and under a Genesis extended warranty? I called a few dealerships in my area but keep getting voice mails and no returned calls.

Try to get it certified as a cpo by a Genesia dealer as it may get you the cpo 10/100k powertrain warranty.
And price a Hyundai/ Genesis platinum wrap policy which should be more reasonable like $3K and covers more than 3rd party.

Yes, that seems really high.

Like Andyj said, try and get a Genesis cpo warranty. They may charge you to cpo it, as well as the cost of the warranty itself. Imo, it would still be worth it. If they won't, then I'd pursue a 3rd party one on your own.

Heading to the dealer today to get a key reprogrammed I will inquire while there. Thanks.

I'm back. Basically can not do a CPO because one I did not but the car from them (and they don't offer option to just certify it) and two I am the third owner. They stated CPO is for single owner cars only. I was offered the same warranty the other dealer offered and it was $4800 for 7yr/100K miles. I can add it at any time but more miles means more expensive. Covers everything you would expect and starts the day you purchase it. I have 2 1/2 years on my 5yr/60K factory warranty. Also factory warranty has priority on any claims under this warranty plan so if I did buy it today I am also paying for 2 1/2 years of the seven years for nothing except buying in at the cheaper cost.

I have the money thats not an issue but I am torn on whats best to do. I've had about 8 Hyundai's bought all new. My 2011 Genesis was the only one that ever had any warranty claim and that was for a transmission. I just know if I dont buy something what will happen. The question is will that something be more than the $4800 warranty? I also am not sure if labor is part of the $4800 warranty plan. I think it just says parts.

Hi guys,
glad I did this search, need your advice. Like AScott, I found a 2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate, very low miles. The dealers are a Hyundai/Genesis dealer, they tells me they can certify the car for $1800. I'm thinking the 5yr/60K factory warranty is good but the 10yr/100 is not, unless it's certified. Does that sounds right?

Should I go ahead and pay the $1800 to get it certified? or do Hyundai/Genesis have a number I can call and buy that option. Looking to finalized this deal next early next week.

Correct, warranty for 2nd owner is 5/60. Do you plan to keep the car to reach the 100k? Normally I would never buy an extended warranty on appliances and the like. In this case, the engine is pretty solid but cars today have lots of electronics. If nothing else, I'd put that $1800 in the bank just in case. Put a few bucks a month into that account and you will be well covered. If nothing goes wrong, you have a good down payment on a new 2023.

It is a crap shoot but what is the main objective of warranty companies? It is to make a profit.

as I recall federal warranty laws allow vehicle consumers to purchase a manufacture extended warranty from the original manufacture as long as the vehicle is still within the original basic warranty criteria, regardless how many owners the car has had.

the basic warranty is 5 years or 60K so you should be able to contact any Genesis dealership and purchase a genuine Genesis extended warranty.

Genesis Protection Plan

Knowing this law, I typically wait until I have had the car for awhile to see if there is going to be issues. With my Chrysler 300 I purchased the extended warranty at 28K (theirs was 3/36K) since I was having a lot of problems, extended it to 5/100K and glad I did vehicle required a new motor at 68K due to what eventually became a recall issue, and a new transmission at 77K. With my Lexus I didn't bother as I never had any major issues with the vehicle.

having owned over 100 vehicles in the past 35+ years, I have never had an issue purchasing a manufacturer warranty after the original vehicle sale within the original basic warranty period, and if one does some hunting around one usually finds there are dealerships that will give better prices than your purchasing dealership. For my Chrysler I bought the warranty online from a Chrysler dealership in GA (I'm in CA) for 1/2 of what the local guys wanted and never had an issue with any CA dealer taking it being it was a Chrysler warranty.

personally I would stick with the Genesis Plans and not use third party or other manufacturers add on warranties, I have experienced and heard of a lot of issues with coverage (or coverage denial to be more specific) using other than original manufacturer plans.
