If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I test drove a 3.6 the other day. I liked it but thought I would miss the backup camera from the technology package. Is it possible that the display screen in the 3.6 premium package could be used with a backup camera?

Thanks

Dave N

No, the LCD is not a color display capable of displaying moving images. It's an antiquated LCD display that only "darkens" specific pre-programmed areas for the audio and climate control system to display the intended image.

With that said, there are several aftermarket options available. You can have a dash-mounted aftermarket NAV system that includes a backup camera professionally installed. I have the Pioneer AVIC F500BT minus the backup camera, but it is available as an accessory. More info: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/Navigation/Portable/AVIC-F500BT?tab=A

If you really have no interest in a NAV system and just want a backup camera, there are several aftermarket dash-mounted units available, although if you prefer a cleaner look I would consider a rearview mirror/backup camera combo unit. It would replace the OEM rearview mirror, while keeping your dash clutter free (although you would be sacrificing your Homelink controls unless you can find one that includes Homelink). There are several styles to choose from and some even have a wireless camera which should make installation pretty easy.

Thanks for the info the display. It's exactly what I needed. I thought this might be so from the way that it looked.

Thanks again,

Dave

no cheap alternative for the backup camera I guess. If our genesis didn't have the tech package I would install an aftermarket headunit withnav and integrate some sort of carputer to run everything, which is what I am doing in my lexus gs

Do you have any pics of your aftermarket install? That's what I am looking to add to my car.

thinking about installing aftermarket backup camera in 2010 genesis sedan. any installation hints?

What screen solutions are you considering?
Like others suggested, you can use an aftermarket head unit with LCD display, a mirror integrated system, or a standalone screen(separate from radio).

i probably want the stand alone screen with the camera mounted on the license plate but cant figure out how to run the wires into the trunk lid without drilling a hole.

You don't need the tech package. I have the premium Nav and it has the backup camera.

I haven't closely looked at how the trunk lid is assembled, but you could probably run the wire through the license plate light housing and through the trunk.
