  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting a GV70. It appears that the two closest dealers to me(east Texas) both pad the price with some sort of paint protection gimmick and the Mesquite, TX dealer also told me they require something called Lojack for $999. I have stellar credit and I don't see why I should have to pay for a tracker on my vehicle. The woman at Mesquite stated that they don't have time to track all the vehicles they sell and that it was for my protection. It appears that the minimum add-on price total would be $2,500.

Any dealers around who do not force these add-ons, and any thoughts about these add-ons or suggestions much appreciated.

I thought LoJack was gone. with BlueLink, OnStar, etc it is not very popular. Dealer has no need to track you anyway.,

When I bought my last car, it was on the lot and some extras were on it. We came to what seemed like a fair price without extras with trade and the salesman had the figures on a paper in front of me. I pointed at them and said "take that off and we have a deal" so, he came back in two minutes and we had a deal.
Everything is negotiable.

Yes, you have to be willing to walk out if they don't remove those items.

My 2022 GV70 had a Stargard tracking device on it when I went in to purchase. The combo Hyundai/Genesis dealer wanted $500 extra for it. I refused to pay for it and told them to remove it. They dropped the extra charge, left it installed, and told me to just register it (free) and then renew it every 3 years (also free), so I did. The software was pure crap. Renewal time was earlier this year, so I went to renew it (free). Come to find out the device hadn’t worked for over a year. No notification. Stargard wouldn’t renew it because the device needed to be active, and told me to contact the dealer for a free replacement device, then I could renew. The Genesis sales manager promised an installer would contact me after they received a replacement. Called 2 weeks later for a status update and the dealership had been sold. No more Genesis, so now back to Stargard. After many calls and months later with ZERO help from Stargard on how to resolve it, I finally got pissed and disconnected it. Problem solved.

1. There are plenty of other dealers to buy from.
2. Dealers buy these trackers and install them so they can keep track of their inventory, and have you pay for their convenience.
3. Dealers also use the trackers to keep track of your miles so they can send you offers to maintain your car (at dealership prices of course.
4. Dealers use the tracker to find your car if you stop paying for it.
5. Have we actually gotten to the point where people do not know what Lojack is/was? Like the dial telephone.

The trackers are very inexpensive. I can send you one. They put two on my wife's Ioniq 5 and we did not pay for them. Took one off the second day of ownership, I discovered the other one by chance when hard wiring the dash cam.

Well, if I have my own financing, I don't see why the dealer cares whether I keep making payments or not.
