  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Potential buyer needs help.

I just drove a base 3.8 yesterday. I like the car. I also test drove a Maxima which I also liked very much.

My questions for this group,
1) How has the car held up quality wise (broken bits, squeaks, major repairs)
2) What type of fuel eccomony have have you observed.
3) How has the cost of ownership been (price of OEM repair parts, ect)
4) Would you do it again.

Thanks for the input,
Jeff K
I have a Genesis coupe that is less than a month old and I am trying to get the dealer to take it back under the California lemon law. When turning right into a slightly sloping driveway, the ABS is activated and stops the car with a loud grinding noise. autoblog.com says the electronic stabitity control (which is causing my problem) is "at least one generation out-of-date." Stay away!

I think the OP is contemplating a sedan, not a coupe. So you're saying that your dealer won't fix what is an obvious defect??

The Genesis was specifically designed with a firm arm rest. I personally like it that way and think it is perfect the way it is. If Hyundai decided to make it softer, it would probably upset a lot of owners and potential buyers.

You should have noticed the firm arm rest during your test drive before you bought the car.

This may be true, but I'm not crying to Hyundai to replace my armrest at cost, and that its a dangerous thing that will cause me to wreck. Nor am I making up sources that Hyundai tweaked the armrest four times last year to make it better and that I should replace it with a '10 armrest and I will be much happier if I did that. Its just my opinion - are you really this petty, Mark? Making off topic attacks like this?

Thanks Guys,

It always helps to hear from the owners.
I stopped by last night to just stare at the cars again, I think I am going to do it.
I wanted a dark grey car with just the premium package, can't find one.
The local dealer has a light blue base model, no miles very cheap, might go that way.

Remember, the dealer might be able to find the car you want. My local dealer actually had the Titanium Grey and I wanted the Sterling Blue with Premium Package, so the dealer got one from another state for me. Considering that it is the middle of the year, there should be plenty around.

I have not been crying to make Hyundai upgrade my suspension for free. It would nice (and generate a lot of goodwill) if they did it at their cost, but I would happy if they issued instructions for dealers to do at retail cost. I will pay for it.

I have never said the 2009 suspension is dangerous. Please provide a quote where I said anything like that.

Neither did I "make up" anything about the number of suspension changes. There have only been two suspension changes that I have heard about. One was on build date of April 8, 2009 for the 2009 model year (posted by HYTECH on this forum, who is a certified Hyundai Tech). The other change affects all 2010 models, and that was from a Hyundai press release, and from posts by a Hyundai employee on the Hyundai Think-Tank website (HMA_Heather to be specific). Please show me where I said there have been 4 changes.

Lastly, I did not attack you. I was attempting to add a little humor that might diffuse the adversarial tone of these discussions, and although one other member thought it was funny, I am very sorry you did not feel the same way.

BTW, I have driven about 150 miles since your "arm rest post" above, and I swear that the center arm rest feels perfect to me just the way it is. I was not making that part up. But if you really want more padding in your arm rest, then by all means you should be free to pursue a remedy for that situation, or anything else you want to change about the car including rims, tips, lights, tints, etc.

I have a Genesis Coupe that I am trying to get Hyundai to take back. The brakes apply themselves (faulty electronic stability control) when I turn into my driveway or the parking lot of the local pharmacy. LOOKS LIKE i'M GOING TO HAVE TO HIRE A LAWYER. Check out autoblog.com for a description of the problem with the ESC.

1) Almost 2 yrs now and 27miles in a V6 with Tech/Nav pack. Overall build quality is good. No interior or exterior pieces have fallen off and leather in good condition.
Issues: Battery died twice. Alternator replaced under warranty and 2nd time unclear etiology. Backup camera works intermittently--dealer unable to replicate problem--very annoying at times.
2) Fuel economy around 23-25 mixed driving.
3) Just paid for usual service at dealership. Alternator repair covered by warranty.
4) I think overall the vehicle is a great value but the 2009 Genesis suspension is too unsettled. I enjoy my mother-in-law's 2009 Honda Accord suspension much better. Maybe the 2010 is improved--I don't know. The exterior styling is great and the interior room and quality is top notch (still love my leather dash!). I would have enjoyed the electronics more if it weren't for my intermittent camera issue.

My 2 yr lease is up and in the end, I am happier than sad about leaving the Genesis. I am sure it will be a sweet deal for someone else. I took good care of her. To the OP, good luck with your purchase.
